Swiss Federal Design Awards - Prix suisses de design 2015

Swiss Federal Design Awards - Prix suisses de design 2015 | What's new in Design + Architecture? | Scoop.it

Swiss designers are eligible to take part in the Swiss Design Competition. The Federal Design Commission appoints the jury. It is assisted by prominent experts.
Since 2012 the age limit of 40 has been lifted.
The competition will take place in two rounds. In the first round the participants will submit a dossier to the jury. The selected competitors will then be invited to take part in a second round in which they will present their work. On this occasion the jury will name the prize winners. The total prize money is 25,000 francs. Some 18 prizes are awarded each year.

This is evident from Telling Time, an exhibition of watch and clock design at the Mudac design museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. From Maarten Baas’ 2009 Sweepers Clock (a realtime film in which road sweepers push lines of garbage around as the hands of a clock); to Thorunn Arnadottir’s Sasa clock which measures time in the revolutions of a bead necklace; and Siren Elise Wilhelmsen 365 Knitting Clock (2010), in which time is measured by the gradual creation of a scarf, a large number of designers (add to that list contributions from Humans Since 1982, Martí Guixé, Bina Baitel and Mark Formanek) have devoted themselves to measuring time through intensely physical, analogue methods.

The project has been designed as part of a particularly innovative programme, environmentally speaking. The concept of the building relies on the development of a primary landscape which would draw its textures and components from the wider landscape in which it is set. In this way it becomes an urban enclave which stands apart: an elevated landscape in which an indigenous environment grows freely, a sort of urban canopy, sheltered, but also protected by people.
