New York: Dina Litovsky Bachelorette, the Rite of Passage

New York: Dina Litovsky Bachelorette, the Rite of Passage | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

In the last decade, the bachelorette party has become a ubiquitous rite of passage for a bride. Through this ritual, the bride-to-be is initiated into the role of a wife by her friends in a fascinating twist on traditional gender roles. The women celebrate their friend’s commitment by engaging in outwardly ‘masculine’ behavior, signifying that a woman has as much sexual freedom to lose as her partner. A ritual attempting to reinforce relationships among women is performed in a conventionally atypical female way- through a night of sexual games and indulgent drinking.

Eight years after the release of the second volume of The Photobook: A History, the latest installment of this encyclopedic trilogy has been published by Phaidon. Bringing together still and moving images, the MoMA exhibition A World of Its Own: Photographic Practices in the Studio explores the use of studio space by photographers and artists beginning in 1826. “In this digital age in which a younger generation of photographers is going back to the studio, I felt it was important to acknowledge the role played by this space in photography’s history,” Quentin Bajac, the first non-American to head the New York museum’s photography department, told Time magazine. (He arrived in January 2013.)

Florian Luthi "Icicle ou Didascalies Impromptues"

Florian Luthi "Icicle ou Didascalies Impromptues" | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

ECAL Library's insight:

Florian Lüthi graduated in 2012 from the ECAL (Bachelor in Visual Communication, Photography).

Publication: Andy Massaccesi designs Sublime for a Milan-based model agency | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

It might be argued that if you were to take a selection of women whose job it is to be startlingly beautiful, and then have extremely capable photographer Alessandro Furchino photograph them, you’d have a hard time making a book of the images that was anything less than lovely. That simply isn’t true, though, and Andy Massaccesi’s excellent work in designing Sublime for the model agency Monster Management is absolutely not to be sniffed at.

Glitch Art: David Szauder and his Failed Memories

Glitch Art: David Szauder and his Failed Memories | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

For David Szauder, a Hungarian artist based in Berlin, human memory is similar to a computer’s hard drive. All of our memories are sorted into folders and subfolders which our brain accumulates like a giant catalogue of jpeg files. While each detail may seem clear and distinct at the time, when retrieved years later from the depths of our minds it’s not uncommon for the memories to be altered or damaged like a corrupt computer file. In programming terms, they’re bugging.
