Lava Waves by CJ Kale

These are the first ever photos done surf photography style with the lava down the wave. Myself and Nick Selway braved 110 + degree water volcanic glass and lava bombs to bring to market the first ever lava shots taken in breaking waves.

Tourists were caught on camera standing near the edge of an erupting volcano, posing for pictures near the edge of the world: the desolate Kamchatka Peninsula in far Eastern Russia.

Two lava river streams have formed, one traveling more than 4 miles and a second more than 11 miles. It’s the first eruption for the Plosky in more than 35 years and is a fissure eruption, the type, according to the website Air Pano, known as “touristic eruptions” that are relatively low danger and provide the photogenic beauty of flowing lava rivers.
