What were Adrian Frutiger's contributions to typography? | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

Could there have been a more influential type designer in the last century? Frutiger didn’t just create the typeface that bears his name. Over the past 60-plus years, he also designed Univers, Avenir, Méridien, Didot, Apollo, Egyptienne,  Rusticana, Serifa and over a hundred other fonts, many of which remain popular to this day. In fact, he has five fonts (Frutiger, Univers, Avenir Next, Avenir and Frutiger Next) in the Top 40 all-time bestsellers list—the only type designer to have enjoyed that level of commercial success.

Pearson Lloyd was commissioned to redesign A&E departments as part of a programme run by the Design Council and the Department for Health. The consultancy’s designs have been trialled over the past 12 months at two pilot trusts in Southampton and London.

Three-quarters of A&E patients surveyed said that the redesign had reduced their frustration during waiting times, while 88 per cent said it clarified the A&E patient process.
