Bunny Yeager had success as a model in Miami in the 1950s, but she wanted to be a photographer. She saw her chance when she met the little-known Bettie Page, who had modeled for under-the-counter photo sets that specialized in sadomasochism.

Pinup photographer, model Bunny Yeager dies at 85 | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

Bunny Yeager, a model turned pin-up photographer who helped jump-start the career of then-unknown Bettie Page, died Sunday, her agent said. She was 85 years old.

Yeager died at a North Miami hospice where she had been for about a week, her agent, Ed Christin said.

Yeager’s legacy is her cultural impact, from pin-up photography and fashion, helping to popularize the bikini, and influencing other artists such as Cindy Sherman, who read Yeager’s guides on photographing nudes and making self-portraits, Christin said. “Anyone in Miami in the 1950s who wanted a bikini would come to her, and she’d make one,” he said.

PDNB in Dallas exhibits the work of legendary pin-up photographer, Bunny Yeager | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

DALLAS, TX.- PDNB Gallery is showing an exhibition by legendary pin-up photographer, Bunny Yeager (b. 1929 Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania). This is her first solo show at PDNB Gallery, and first solo show in a major photography gallery in the United States. In 1953, US Camera Magazine named Bunny Yeager "The World's Prettiest Photographer" and rightfully so. She was a 5'9" bombshell and former model who loved exotic animals and tiny bikinis. At the age of 17, Yeager moved from Pennsylvania to Miami to live out her fantasy. "I loved glamorous actresses like Dorothy Lamour, or anyone in a sarong or hula skirt. I was in love with the tropics, and found it here in Miami." said Yeager in an interview with Huffington Post Miami in 2012.
