In 2005, Alain Bisotti, communications manager of the association Hôtels Paris Rive Gauche, founded the project Photo d’Hôtel, Photo d’Auteur (Hotel Photo, Artist Photo). I still remember back in 2005 when Alain came to see me with a presentation under his arm and a pot of honey harvested from the beehives on the rooftops of his Parisian hotels.

Fantoche is now opening its 'International Competition' for the eleventh time, and is searching for the best animated short films from the last 12 months from all over the world. Artistically daring ideas, visionary experiements, stories with a twist and the best, top-quality entertainment are being sought, whether produced by newcomers, young talent or established film-makers. This allows Fantoche to once again fell the pulse of the latest trends from the world of animated film. Entries will be judged by the international jury and the audience during the Festival, from 3-8 September 2013.

For professional photographers, advancements in technology pose an interesting predicament. Camera innovations have enabled them to take better photos, but it’s lowered the barrier to entry by competitors. “You get that instant feedback with a digital camera,” said Chad Redling, 30, a part-time wedding photographer in Rochester who was recently laid off from his job as a computer programmer and is now considering doing photography full time. “It shortens the learning curve.” He’s hardly alone. With unemployment still high, a lot of people, women in particular, are taking their fancy digital cameras and booking jobs shooting weddings, leading some long-established wedding photographers to brand them as “mamarazzis” or “digital debbies.”

Once the designers are chosen, selected Burton dealers will vote and narrow the field to the top ten designs.
