after months and over one-hundred prototypes, the leica digital rangefinder camera designed by sir jony ive and marc newson for (RED) has officially been announced. joining more than 40 other rare and diverse items in the (RED) sotheby’s auction on november 23rd 2013, the device will be based on the leica M, and will be auctioned to raise money for the global fund to fight aids, tuberculosis and malaria.

If ever there was a camera of which it could be said, “They don’t build ‘em like they used to,” it is the Exakta VX IIa. It is the epitome of German fine engineering, a Precision Instrument with capital letters. Those who are accustomed to more modern cameras may however breathe a short prayer of thanks at the fact that they don’t make ‘em like this any more. Compared with the vast majority of cameras past or present, many of the controls are upside down or backwards or both. It is not so much a camera with some eccentric features built in, as a collection of eccentric features with a camera hiding somewhere behind them.

Forget printing your own photos, now you can print and make your own pinhole camera from a cereal box.

An art graduate from Brighton has designed a retro-looking pinhole camera made from cardboard, a paperclip and a soft drinks can.

The camera, called Videre, which is Latin for 'to see', takes photos using medium-format film and is put together using folds and glue.

Bellamy Hunt’s name is part of his business: Japan Camera Hunter, a one-man enterprise supporting film photo buffs around Asia and the world. His work mainly involves hunting down vintage cameras, whether an elusive early model Nikon or a classic Leica.

Although Hunt appreciates the pun in his company’s name (“My Japanese clients love seeing the katakana repeated, hunter from Hunt”), he doesn’t really see himself as a hunter.
