Voies Off: John Paul Evans Matrimonial ties

Voies Off: John Paul Evans Matrimonial ties | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

Over the last 10 months, the focus of my work has been the performance of various permutations of the wedding portrait. The repetitious act creates multiple generic couples and brings into question the false notion of autonomy promised by existentialism. The philosopher and cultural historian Michel Foucault was opposed to the idea of the existentialist project as it gives the individual the illusion of autonomy. Instead, he focussed more on ‘process’, and the idea of ‘becoming’ rather than ‘being’.

Arles 2014 : Nos coups de Coeur - Léon Gimpel

Arles 2014 : Nos coups de Coeur - Léon Gimpel | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

Paris, August 1915: men are at war and women  are working. Far from their parents, the children of the rue Greneta play at battle. Equipped with only his camera and the inspiration of a few Poulbot drawings, Léon Gimpel faced this army of kids. From this encounter in the heart of the Sentier neighbourhood was born a series of staged photographic tableaux, alternating between colour (autochrome) and black and white. Arles 2014 : Nos coups de Coeur - Chema Madoz

Arles 2014 : Nos coups de Coeur - Chema Madoz | What's new in Visual Communication? | Scoop.it

A buried guitar . The universe as the  target of an arrow. A cloud in a cage. Welcome to Chema Madoz’s world. The Spanish photographer specializes in item diversion. The images looks simple yet nothing is left to chance. If the works are untitled, the viewer is  quickly  taken into the game, looking for the double meaning of the images, and the details which will disturb the logic of the image. In his still lifes, Madoz plays with the words, shadows and shapes.
