Does E-Reading Change the Way You Read?

Does E-Reading Change the Way You Read? | eBook Publishing | Scoop.it

Brian S's insight:

I didn't think I would like using an ereader, but it turns out the opposite is true, I actually prefer it now I have started to use it.

Marianela Camacho Alfaro's curator insight, July 24, 2013 6:54 PM

"Most importantly, I read a lot more now. Not an exclusive ereader, I usually have an ebook and a paper read going at the same time. And so this has led to more finished books. And that’s a great thing! The numbers don’t lie — I read nearly 20 percent more books last year (my first full year with an e-reader) than my best reading year since college (thank you, Goodreads stats). And I’m on pace this year to shatter last year’s record."

Penelope's curator insight, July 24, 2013 10:46 PM

I don't read as much as I used to--in any form--because now the reading time has been replaced with writing time. On the other hand, my Kindle has caused a redirection in my reading.

I used to go after every free book under the sun, until I started weeding out the garbage books. Now, I am very picky about what I download onto my Kindle. I am using it mostly for reading ebooks all about writing, plotting, characterization, grammar, etc. I do have other genres on my Kindle, but they don't get read as often. So, for me, my Kindle has become my classroom.

Now when I want to relax with a book, I still like the feel of a paperback in my hands. I'm reading one right now, in fact. So I have a print 'n paper book in one hand, and an electronic device in the other. Now, all I need is more time to read both!

I got thi source from Scoop it itself. The originl source is Ebooks which we are all famlliar with. This article talks about publishing your own book. As we know from the book Bird By Bird it is very difficult to have your book published and barley any people can live on the income of a writer. The article talks about different ways to go about getting your book published and how to do it yourself because the first try doesnt always work. I notice that this article is obviously directed toward people who are interested in having their book published in other words it is directed towards writers. This article captured my intererst because ever since I was a child it has always been my dream to write my own book and to have others read it which ultimately means having it published.

This professional book editor recommends leaving nouns and verbs alone and they will sing off the page. Example: "The plane landed in Heathrow," is more hard hitting than a "twin-jetted, silver-winged Boeing." Say what you mean and leave the rest on the cutting floor.
