Amazon to Launch Audible in India? | The Digital Reader

Amazon to Launch Audible in India? | The Digital Reader | Ebook and Publishing | Scoop.it
Amazon is reportedly talking with Indian publishers about launching Audible in India: Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, wants to bring Audible, its audio books streaming service, to India. For that it has been talking to the biggest book publishers in the country, such as Penguin Random House and HarperCollins, as well as the Chiki Sarkar-led start-up, Juggernaut. Executives in charge of Amazon’s global operations were recently in India to talk to book publishers, said two persons in the books industry. A spokesperson for Amazon India declined to comment. The two persons who confirmed talks with Amazon’s global executives also said that the pricing of audio books was proving to be tricky. Some publishers want more money, while some others are concerned about how the revenue from audio books will accrue to the authors since Amazon likes to work on a subscription model for streaming Audio books, not on a pay-per-book model. Audible would be Amazon’s next big gambit in India after Prime Video, a subscription-based streaming service for movies and television shows. Equally important, Audible will raise Amazon’s play in Indian publishing. That's going to be a tricky move for Amazon. It's not just the language issues (India has [...]

Kindle Unlimited Funding Pool Increases by $1 Million as the Per-Page Royalty Drops in January 2017 | The Digital Reader | Ebook and Publishing | Scoop.it
Amazon saw a better than expected jump in Kindle Unlimited usage last month. The retailer reported on its support forum that the KDP funding pool had jumped to $17.8 million, an increase of a million dollars from December 2016. The news not all good, however; the per-page rate fell in every market where we have data. Here in the US the December royalty was 0.52396 cents, which dropped to 0.4754 cents in January. US: $0.0048 (USD) Germany: €0.0033 (EUR) France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands: €0.0047 (EUR) Brazil: R$ 0.01150 (BRL) Mexico: 0.0791 (MXN) UK, Australia, India, Japan, Canada: no data This drop is the per-page rate follows the expected annual pattern; there is usually a spike in KU usage in January due to all the Kindles and Fire tablets sold the month before. The rate will likely increase again in February as trial users drop out. P.S. Here's a list of the monthly funding pools. It does not include the bonuses paid out each month. July 2014: $2.5 million (Kindle Unlimited launches early in the month) August 2014: $4.7 million September 2014: $5 million October 2014: $5.5 million November 2014: $6.5 million December 2014: $7.25 million January 2015 - $8.5 million February 2015: $8 million March 2015: [...]
