3 Critical Marketing Principles For Authors From The Bookseller Marketing and Publicity Conference | FutureBook

3 Critical Marketing Principles For Authors From The Bookseller Marketing and Publicity Conference | FutureBook | Ebook and Publishing | Scoop.it
As one of the few authors who attended the Bookseller Marketing and Publicity conference this week, I was impressed with the incredible marketing campaigns that publishers have put together for their top authors and the books they decide to focus on. There are definitely some talented and enthusiastic marketing professionals out there and of course, all authors would love that kind of marketing attention. But what about the 95% of authors who don’t have brand author status, who are not given nine months of marketing campaign focus, and whose books are not the ‘chosen ones’ for the season. Here are some key principles and also specific tactics that authors can use for their marketing.

Some great ideas pop out at me in this post for promoting your Kindle books through contests. Everybody loves contests! My first Kindle ebook was about my success in winning big sweepstakes.

An extremely easy way to run a contest on your blog or Facebook page is by using Rafflecopter.com. It gives you all the tools and lets you set up a contest with relative ease. I also recommend Goodreads.com for running contests with your printed books. You can amass thousands of new fans quickly.

There are some other out-of-the-box ideas in this post. Authors need to keep their eyes peeled, as there are so many creative ways to excite new readers.

Why Self-Publishing Doesn't Work - And How It Can | Write to Done

Why Self-Publishing Doesn't Work - And How It Can | Write to Done | Ebook and Publishing | Scoop.it
Marianela Camacho Alfaro's insight:

"Imagine an ideal world where authors simply wrote books and publishers sold them.

In this utopia, authors might even be content to give away 85%-90% of their sales revenue if publishers did all the work of producing, distributing and marketing the books.

Sounds absurd, but the model is viable. It once existed. Do you remember the golden age when publishers actually did what they were paid for?"

No Names, No Jackets | One chapter. Just the writing. Discover something new.

Marianela Camacho Alfaro's insight:

"No Names, No Jackets, a book discovery service with an innovative twist: all you see here is one chapter from a story without knowing who wrote it, whether it was self-published or traditional, its synopsis, its title, or what its cover looks like. We all say that good writing should be the only thing that matters, not good salesmanship or high profile. 3NJ aims to make that a reality through both a steady stream of submitted content and a StumbleUpon-style lucky dip randomiser system that won’t show you the same thing twice and won’t let older content lay buried.

There are no reviews, no star ratings, no likes, no recommendations, no favourites. Other sites and services can do these things better and have done so for longer. That’s fine. 3NJ is purely about discovery, about allowing people who want to read good stuff to find it free of prejudice and preconception, and people who write good stuff to let their writing stand for itself."
