The best outcome is NOT that the Big Six, a tiny segment of today's publishing activity, get a further lock on library resources. Simply selling us yet another format of titles we already have further erodes our purchasing power. At this moment, amidst the greatest explosion of writing in the history of mankind, we need solutions that look considerably better than the status quo. Dagens modeller for formidling av ebøker gjennom bibliotekenes systemer legger opp til en identifisering av låner og bok som nok kolliderer med ideen om fri bruk og ingen overvåkning i bibliotekene. Did you know that a big part of BEA involves authors and their fans? Apparently I don’t, because I keep spending all my time downstairs in the conference room area listening to business presentations. Særdeles interessante erfaringer. Jeg ser at min egen bruk av fagbøker nå er i ferd med å gå tilbake til papirutgavene nettopp av samme grunn som mange studenter oppgir. Lukkede formater som kan forsvinne (inkludert notater og uthevinger), kostnader og ikke minst at det er en fysisk komponent som hjelper hukommelsen. Den fysiske handlingen å bla om, understreke/gule ut, notere og kommentere på papir ser ut til å hjelpe meg til å huske ting bedre. Foreløpig er min erfaring at dette ikke skjer på iPad eller Kindle.
