Please... No More PowerPoint Title Slides! | LinK 2 Tech [Lin K] | Scoop.it

Christopher Gurrie: In 2008, a colleague and I set out to make it our mission to rid this world of bad PowerPoint presentations. Remember the consequences: every time you make a bad PowerPoint presentation -- God (all of them) kills a kitten.

Even if we can only influence one student at a time -- hopefully we are doing our part to make presentation land just a little bit better for our fellow audience members. After all, we're only on this Earth for a short while -- it shouldn't be spent sitting through boring presentations where the presenter reads to us from slides laden with too many words and not enough practice...

Some great tips here to consider when implementing digital storytelling in the language classroom. There are a host of userfriendly tools available for this purpose and something to suit all levels of digital literacies. You don't have to go high-tech at all to create a story and they can be designed as a group activity. Be careful when using material from elsewhere. Always check whether a creative commons license is attached and what the conditions are. Give attribtuion where it is due.

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot

Ten Reflections on the First Year of an iPad Pilot | LinK 2 Tech [Lin K] | Scoop.it

Passing out iPads to students on the first day of school was like celebrating Christmas (or in this case Hanukkah)  with thirty antsy kids sitting around the tree,  attempting to hide their impatience.  Once the iPads had been handed out, students were instantly excited, engaged and enchanted with the new learning device in their hands. At first, everyone was confused about where to find work, where to save and store their products – and which app to use for what purpose. As with every pilot, these issues worked themselves out and soon classes were running pretty smoothly. Once they all learned what a “hard reset” was we were on our way. After an exciting year chalked full of learning lessons and changes in our learning landscape here are my takeaways:'

Recordium is a new iPad and iPhone for creating audio recordings. At first glance the app reminded me Sound Cloud. You can also snip out a middle portion of a recording and save it as a separate recording or trash it. Where Recordium gets interesting is in the annotation features. The app allows you to highlight and tag portions of your recordings. Your tags can even include pictures. Completed recordings can be shared to a number of services including Google Drive and Evernote.
