"In a great article published last week, Stan Woods of Velocity Partners offered his thoughts on how fast marketing has developed over the past few months, and the new marketing roles this change has created.

 

In his closing paragraph, Woods distinguishes between the creative-driven and data-driven marketers by referring to them as “marketing artists” and “marketing scientists,” respectively. Although a slight oversimplification, these distinctions hold a lot of truth about the current divide that exists within many marketing departments.

 

Technology has given marketers the ability to track, quantify, and optimize marketing processes at a level that was unheard of only a year ago. The marketing scientist has come to dominate this new arena of objective measurement and data-driven thinking, while the marketing artist continues to thrive on creative ideas and a more abstract way of thinking..."

Combining smart social media marketing with SEO strategy can result in greater marketing success.

 

Since mid-to-late 2010 (or maybe earlier), Google and Bing have been using social media engagement metrics as a ranking signal.

 

Things like mentions, shares, likes, and retweets are used by search engines as a form of “social proof,” much like links.

 

An analogy that I like to use with clients when describing the quantity and quality of links – and now social mentions – to their website is like a “vote.” I know the majority of you are sick of all of the political talk, but think of each link and each social mention as a vote of confidence.

 

The more votes you have, the more likely you are to be seen as an authority on the topic (web page) or as a whole (your site / domain).

 

Logic tells us that the higher the quantity – and more importantly, the quality – of those votes, the higher we will rank for the keyword terms that we’re targeting.

Enfin un peu de fun dans la communication du lancement du nouveau Windows 8 ! La marque a cette fois privilégié l’action en remplaçant les marches du Bluewater Shopping Centre, dans la banlieue de Londres, par un toboggan. Les passants se faisaient notamment photographier durant la descente avec une publication en temps réel sur leurs réseaux sociaux (Facebook / Twitter) ainsi que sur l’écran géant disponible juste à côté. Dommage, seuls les enfants y ont droit...
