Zillow’s Trulia move is 'checkmate' | Inman News

Zillow’s Trulia move is 'checkmate' | Inman News | Real Estate; Interesting Articles | Scoop.it
In my view, this is checkmate. Soon, Zillow will control the chessboard, like Amazon does the publishing industry. The only meaningful consumer destination, Amazon, after many savvy moves, now controls pricing, merchandising, the data and the market. Soon, Zillow will control the pricing, the listings, the merchandizing and, for sure, the consumer.

NAR Survey Shows Realtors® Continue to Invest in Mobile Technologies

NAR Survey Shows Realtors® Continue to Invest in Mobile Technologies | Real Estate; Interesting Articles | Scoop.it
The Realtor® Technology Survey found that Realtors® continued to invest in new technology for their businesses in 2013 and spent more than they did in previous years.
Charles Mortimer's insight:

This is a great article.  When I first started in the Real Estate business we had a FAX machine with, I think thermal paper, a phone on our desks with an in house voice mail that sometimes worked and that was it.  Calling clients was interesting, most had no answering machines, so I had to leave messages with the person that answered the phone, nine times out of ten the massage never made it to the client.

Have things changed!! Wow, now must of my clients have cell phones and smart phones.  I carry an Ipad, Asus pad, two Android smart cell phones that can just about run an office on the fly, a Bluetooth ear peace that is in my ear all day and most of the evening.  I also carry a MIFI cell for WiFi to download contracts on the fly so that my clients can electronically sign anywhere as we are a paperless office.  The contract then goes immediately to my Transaction Coordinator to start processing the file before I have even got back into my car. How things have changed.  As a company we have decided to use the Ipad Apple platform in the field and invest in new technology to keep up with the times.

With this Technology it has freed up so much of my time from running around in my car to get signatures to calling, texting, emailing and keeping in contact with my clients.  Realtors that have been in the business for some time can appreciate how this has helped their business.

Ask your Realtor if they are keeping up with the times.

California wake-up call: Extreme drought will lead to migration exit and real estate collapse
Charles Mortimer's insight:

When I first read this article, I felt sick in my stomach remembering the 2008 collapse of the Real Estate market sitting in front of the TV watching the stock market go down in late 2008.  I had that same sick feeling reading this article

I remember in September 2005 talking to the agents in my office that the Real Estate market was going to change for the worse if the second hurricane hit in Florida, which it did, then the gas prices went through he roof.   I think this was the start of the domino affect which eventually was one of many perfect aliments  causing the 2008 crash.  I hope that this is not the start to the next perfect alinement

Biggest mistakes I've made in 15 years selling real estate | Inman News

Biggest mistakes I've made in 15 years selling real estate | Inman News | Real Estate; Interesting Articles | Scoop.it
Over the course of 15 years of selling real estate, I've made some mistakes. It's easy to do when you don't have a "how-to" manual or a mentor to guide you. I thought I'd share a few of my blunders ... just in case there's a newbie out there who could benefit.
Charles Mortimer's insight:

How long has your Real Estate agent been in the business? As agents the longer you have been in the business the more you should know through practical experience.. Always interview the agent you are hiring to see how many homes they have sold and the support staff they have to help you.  Selling a home is one of the most expensive transactions you may do in a lifetime.  Get good advice.

The myth of the 'Zillow-killer' | Inman News

The myth of the 'Zillow-killer' | Inman News | Real Estate; Interesting Articles | Scoop.it
Instead of trying to get in the middle of every real estate transaction, real estate technology providers should be acting as partners, empowering agents so that they can connect with consumers on their own terms. The future of real estate technology isn’t about building a dictatorship on one real estate search portal and disenfranchising everyone else.
Charles Mortimer's insight:

How are you getting your information about homes from your Real Estate agent or through the many Real Estate internet portals?   Most clients that I have talked to are finding their own home through the Real Estate Internet portals , calling their agent and telling them they have found a home.  In my opinion this has give client much more say in where they would like to live.

We specialize in listing homes, this change has been a huge welcome to us in marketing our clients homes as the internet has changed the way Real Estate is done.  The homes can now be viewed in most part by sitting on a cell phone.

"Coming Soon" Properties Can Create Consumer Confusion

"Coming Soon" Properties Can Create Consumer Confusion | Real Estate; Interesting Articles | Scoop.it
The National Association of Realtors® today published information for NAR members regarding advertising properties as “coming soon.”
Charles Mortimer's insight:

I mentioned this in a previous blog.  Realtors have to be very careful how they handle the "Coming Soon" sign in a sellers front yard, Is it in the best interest of all concerned?

"The first important step in advising a seller-client on whether to advertise a property as 'coming soon' is to identify the client's best interests, as defined by that client," said National Association of Realtors® General Counsel Katie Johnson. "Failing to act in the client's best interest and failing to disclose the pros and cons of a limited marketing plan, such as 'coming soon' advertising, can violate state real estate license laws and regulations, MLS policies, and the Realtor® Code of Ethics."  please read more....
