The current president of the UN's General Assembly, Serbian Vuk Jeremić visited Pope Francis at the Vatican. It was a cordial meeting, where the fight against human trafficking, the protection of the environment and the gap between the rich and the poor were discussed.
Regarding the crisis in the Middle East, the Vatican asked for peaceful means to resolve the conflict. Attention to the rights of ethnic and religious minorities were also addressed.
“We need angels.. to help us reach up high.”
The President of the General Assembly also met with Vatican foreign minister, Dominique Mamberti, and with Secretary of State cardinal Tarcisio Bertone.
According to the Vatican, the meeting 'confirmed the Holy See's esteem for the central role the UN plays in the search for the common good of humanity.'
