Quality matters as well. Nothing new, but good to be reminded 20 years after a landmark study first unveiled the 30 million "word gap" between 3 year old kids from poor families compared to affluent ones.

During the same period, other Asian countries, most notably Indonesia and Vietnam, have made enormous progress.

Japan trying to find solutions to its English language curse. The notion of English as a Lingua Franca (and more specifically here, English as a language of non native speakers) is gaining acceptance. Food for thought indeed, but not at any linguistic cost.
