Use PicMonkey to Make Digital Posters

Use PicMonkey to Make Digital Posters | Early Childhood Learning | Scoop.it
Gone are the days when PowerPoint was your only option for presenting material. Today, there are lots of web 2.0 tools out there to make presentations fun and engaging. Popular tools like Glogster allow manipulation of images, animations, and other graphics to make digital "posters," and I feel like there's a new web-based image editing tool popping up every day. Surely one of these image editors could be harnessed to create a digital poster for free, right?

Deborah McNelis's curator insight, April 2, 2013 2:26 PM

Children need the opportuntiy for imaginative play to develop the highest thinking areas of the brain responsible for self regulation and executive function.

Tess Sorensen's comment, April 6, 2013 3:34 PM
"Play is created by children, not adults." Adults, learn to step back and let the children lead. Do not ever think that you are only a teacher, you must remember to be a learner also.

A while back, we set up a "science lab" in the outdoor classroom. Various shades of colored water filled bins upon bins in our dramatic play area. The children donned goggles and lab coats and set to work mixing the brilliant colors in beakers, funnels, measures, cups, basters, and more.

Reading at five: Why?

Ruth Vilmi's curator insight, October 21, 2013 1:43 PM

Do Americans really believe that their children should learn to read in the kindergarten? I believe they start school at the age of 5. I used to believe it was a good idea - we all had to learn to read at c. 4.5 years when I was young. But here in Finland, they learn to read in school at the age of 7, if they haven't learned by themselves before this. And, according to the PISA results, they are one of the most literate nations in the world. Children first need to learn to play!
