10 Teacher-Tested Tools for Flipping Your Classroom - Getting Smart by Susan Lucille Davis - blended learning, digital learning, education technology, flipclass, flipped class, flipped classroom, O... | EAP, ELT and EFA | Scoop.it

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve spent some time addressing my earlier commitments to flipping at least some portion of my Language Arts classes. (You can learn about my ongoing saga at “4 Ways Flipping Forces Fundamental Change” and at “Why I Haven’t Flipped…Yet”). Reading FlipYour Classroom by Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams provided practical advice and a justification for flipping, Learning about the Stanford studies that suggest better results from flipping your flipping (that is, doing hands-on work in the classroom first, reinforced by flipped lessons at night) But, ultimately, what I needed to do was to dive in and try out some tools with my kids and my curriculum in mind. The unexpected result: I’ve had to acknowledge something I hadn’t really thought about — I am a video-phobe.

How To Become A Better Online Researcher | EAP, ELT and EFA | Scoop.it

We’re sort of led to believe that the ‘best’ search results are the ones on the first page. Companies pay tons of money to be featured on the top of the search results for this reason! Don’t be fooled – it is worth the time you spend sifting through the search results.

Google seeks public opinion on 'right to be forgotten' | CNET.com

Google seeks public opinion on 'right to be forgotten' | CNET.com | EAP, ELT and EFA | Scoop.it
Does the public have a right to information about the nature, volume, and outcome of removal requests made to search engines? Should individuals be able to request removal of links to information published by a government? These are just a couple of the questions thrown out by Google in a new Web form asking people affected by the "right to be forgotten" ruling to share their opinions. The European Union right to be forgotten ruling, which went into effect in May, requires Google and other search engines to take down search result links pertaining to individuals who believe that such links invade their privacy or harm them in some way. The ruling has been controversial as it walks the tightrope between privacy and free speech. Google has criticized the ruling but has also attempted to comply with it. Earlier this month, Google said that as of July 18 it has received 91,000 requests involving more than 328,000 individual webpages since May. Google is only taking down links in its European search engines, meaning that if users search for the same content on its US-based website they can see the results that were removed in Europe. Google's recently formed advisory council has scheduled several public discussions on the matter that will use information collected by the new Web form. But will such discussions lend new insight to the matter or confuse it even further? Click headline to read more--

10 Things Every Teacher Should Know How To Do With Google Docs | Edudemic | EAP, ELT and EFA | Scoop.it

Google Docs is a powerful word processing tool that many schools have adopted. As it’s similar to Microsoft Word and other word processing tools, most of its features are intuitive to use. However, in addition to completing many of the functions of a traditional word processor, Google Docs provides even more capabilities that can be invaluable to educators. Here are ten tricks that can make your life easier with Google Docs:

I have step by step increase the usage and teaching about Google Docs, Slides, Hangouts and Drive at school. It becomes easier if changes take place a step at a time in your teaching and learning environments.

Mark Fuson's curator insight, July 19, 10:03 AM

I must admit, I've got to get better at some of these. One of the biggest issues with learning something is practice and practice takes time and the willingness to fail. Unfortunately, teachers often are so rushed by their schedules that they can't afford to struggle with something in order to learn it because they have 165 students, 3 different preps, papers to grade, a family life, and curriculum to create. Unless we change these factors, how can a teacher learn new skills in the classroom and why would they try to if experiencing a little failure could negatively impact evaluation?

Kim Lindskog's curator insight, July 25, 5:07 PM

As we think about what it is that we want to help teachers with in relation to Google apps...this might help with the conversation.
