Really eyeopening, specially - "Ambient Insight reports a surging global mobile learning market. The countries with the highestgrowth rates (all over 60%) are China, India, and Indonesia. The countries with the lowest growth rates (all under 5%) are Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, the three most mature Mobile Learning markets on the planet."

If online students aren’t engaged, blame their teacher

If online students aren’t engaged, blame their teacher | E-tivities | Scoop.it

"A very wise old online professor, Bill Pelz, once told me that the lecture is the most efficient way to pass important concepts and theories from the professor’s notepad to the student’s iPad without going through either brain. So, I am very curious. Why do students fail to engage in discussions/interactions? What went wrong in the discussion activity? We need to think about this from students’ perspective."

Interesting discussion on online presence

Dr. Melissa A. Bordogna's curator insight, April 2, 2013 4:47 PM

Engagement in online or offline teaching needs to be addressed.  One way to increase engagement is to include play or fun into the mix.

Lessons learned from 11 JISC-funded 3-year curriculum design projects

Lessons learned from 11 JISC-funded 3-year curriculum design projects | E-tivities | Scoop.it

Gabi Witthaus's curator insight, February 27, 2013 5:11 AM

I know that numbered lists of "lessons learned" from disparate projects can be tedious to read through and make sense of, but this list is a treasure-trove of useful advice from the JISC 'synthesis team' - a small group of academics within the UK-based organisation that provided funding for eleven higher education projects to conduct in-depth research into what works and what doesn't work in curriculum design. To get the most out of this list, one would need to read the 'project institutional stories' as well - available from http://jiscdesignstudio.pbworks.com/w/page/59487369/Curriculum%20Design%20Final%20Synthesis%20Report in the same wiki.

The lessons learned are far-reaching, covering everything from curriculum design processes to organisational transformation. If one were to use this as a checklist for curriculum design, there is no doubt in my mind that the processes involved in creating course materials could be vastly improved, resulting in better course materials and a greatly enhanced student experience of the curriculum.
