The Power of Personalized Learning

The Power of Personalized Learning | Online Spanish Courses | Scoop.it
If we, as educators, place upon our students an expectation to better change the world in which we live, we must start with more thoughtful, engaging, and personalized instruction....
Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

Recognizing the powerful combination of personal learning and the opportunities to support this in our ever technologically advancing world, I would argue that now, more than ever, is the time for the world to embrace that notion. The reality is that a highly personal, yet collaborative, approach to education is what defines and differentiates a true international education.

Year-Round Homeschooling

Year-Round Homeschooling | Online Spanish Courses | Scoop.it
Find out more about the benefits of year-round homeschooling, and see if it would work for you!
Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

1. Seasons

Do you live in a geographical area where the summers are extremely hot or the winters are extremely cold? Year-round homeschooling means that you could plan your larger breaks for when the outdoor temperatures are most appealing. Too hot to be outside very long in June and July? No problem! Stay inside, enjoy the air conditioning, get some school work done, and take a couple of weeks off in October, or a month off in December. This is especially appealing when you think that the best vacation spots are often overpriced and overcrowded in the summer. By homeschooling year round you could plan to take advantage of cheaper rates and fewer crowds by taking your family vacation in the off season!

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

has long been used to describe and organize thinking behaviours that are considered important to learning outcomes. Describing differing levels of complexity, Benjamin Bloom organized learning into six major categories, from the simplest behaviour to the most complex. At the more basic end of the spectrum is knowledge, with the most complex demonstration of learning being described as evaluation.

The 6 levels including sample outcome verbs are listed below:

Knowledge (Recall data or information) e.g.: defines, describes, identifies, knows, labels, lists, matches, names, outlines, recalls, recognizes, reproduces, selects, states.Comprehension (Understand the meaning) e.g.: comprehends, converts, defends, distinguishes, estimates, explains, extends, generalizes, gives an example, infers, interprets, paraphrases, predicts, rewrites, summarizes, translates.Application (Use a concept in a new situation ) e.g.: applies, changes, computes, constructs, demonstrates, discovers, manipulates, modifies, operates, predicts, prepares, produces, relates, shows, solves, uses.Analysis (Separate material or concepts into component parts so that its organizational structure may be understood. Distinguishes between facts and inferences) e.g.:Synthesis (Put parts together to form a whole, with emphasis on creating a new meaning or structure) e.g.: categorizes, combines, compiles, composes, creates, devises, designs, explains, generates, modifies, organizes, plans, rearranges, reconstructs, relates, reorganizes, revises, rewrites, summarizes, tells, writesEvaluation (Make judgments about the value of ideas or materials. ) e.g.: appraises, compares, concludes, contrasts, criticizes, critiques, defends, describes, discriminates, evaluates, explains, interprets, justifies, relates, summarizes, supports

9 Tips for Successful Language Learning | Multilingual Living

9 Tips for Successful Language Learning | Multilingual Living | Online Spanish Courses | Scoop.it

By Corey Heller As we all know, studying a language is different from living a language.  There is a very directed and purposeful process that occurs when  we study a language.

Professional and Personal #Spanish #Online #BlendedLearning

www.spanish-school-herradura.com/online-spanish

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

This makes sense: as adults, we already understand how language works (grammar, declensions, parts of speech) so we now apply those rules to yet another language. We study the pieces bit by bit and then use them to construct new sentences with these individual pieces.  However, our children shouldn’t be expected to study our language(s).  Talk about boring!

Language living is what we do when we share our language with our children on a daily basis: we surround them with our languages and allow them to absorb these languages over time.  We may point out grammar errors now and then but ultimately we are our children’s example for how to use languages in every day life and we share it with them without expecting them to understand the underlying constructs.

This doesn’t mean that our children won’t reach a point where they too will study their languages (e.g. here in the USA we take many years of English classes to learn about our languages – and we still may not understand it), which is in itself a fascinating subject!

10 Reasons High Schools Students Say They Prefer Learning Online

10 Reasons High Schools Students Say They Prefer Learning Online | Online Spanish Courses | Scoop.it

Lisa Nielsen:

Ever wonder how students feel about learning online? At the recent iNacol Virtual Schools Symposium participants were treated to an experience that is surprisingly is rarely available at education conferences. We had the opportunity to hear directly from a panel of students who explained why they preferred learning online. Here are some of the reasons shared by these students and others I heard from explaining why students preferred this method of learning.

Learning online offers many advantages, the most important ones the student can learn individually, at his own pace.

Homeschooling Fears – Will My Children Regret Being Homeschooled? - LivingMontessoriNow.com

Homeschooling Fears – Will My Children Regret Being Homeschooled? - LivingMontessoriNow.com | Online Spanish Courses | Scoop.it

Welcome to the February 2014 Carnival of Natural Parenting: Parenting Fears...

Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

Will, 28, said he liked homeschooling and didn’t regret being homeschooled. He said:

“Homeschooling made me a more independent thinker. Homeschooling was also more interesting. I studied a better variety of topics.

“Because I was involved in skating, I still had a social presence. I do think homeschoolers need to be involved in some sort of social activity for their kids.”

Christina, 23, also said she liked homeschooling and didn’t regret being homeschooled. She said:

“I really liked that I was able to graduate two years early. That meant that I was able to graduate from college at age 19, which is extremely rare.

“I loved the freedom of being able to do my schoolwork at different times of the day so that I could keep up my busy schedule of ballet, skating, workouts, and karate.

“Being homeschooled also meant that I didn’t have to spend lots of extra time on homework and inessentials. Instead, I was able to focus and spend more time on what was important for me to learn.

“I enjoyed being taught by my mom. She’s an excellent teacher, and it was always nice to be around her more.

“Homeschooling also helped me be more independent as I grew older and was able to take more responsibility for my studies.”

10 Commandments of Innovative Teaching - A.J. Juliani

10 Commandments of Innovative Teaching - A.J. Juliani | Online Spanish Courses | Scoop.it
What is innovative teaching? The answer is always changing. Here's a list of ways we can innovate while technology, standards, and content all change.
Sonja Hartemink e-learning Spanish's insight:

Flash forward eight years and the classrooms look very different in my same school district. In the two years since my district began our 1:1 laptop initiative our classrooms have evolved once more. New technology, new standards, and new content. Throughout this process I have tried my best to stay on top of where education is headed and what are the emerging “next” practices. Now when I talk to teachers in my district and around the country, I try to focus on the key elements of innovative teaching. With technology, standards, and content continually changing…these “innovative commandments” give teachers a starting point regardless of their situation.
