| Scoop.it

U2 Working With Apple On "New Digital Music Format" That Assures Artists Get Paid Again - Update | E-Music ! | Scoop.it
UPDATED: U2 is working with Apple to create a new digital music format that would assure that songwriters and artists get paid for creating music. Their plans "might just save the music industry," according to a preview of a Time Magazine cover story posted online Thursday morning. Time reporter Catherine Mayer spent the last week with the band, including travelling to Cupertino for their Apple album giveaway and performance. But that's just the start of what they have planned, according to Bono. DETAILS + UPDATE: U2 makes millions from live performances. But that's not true for all artists, particularly those...
Christophe Peckeu's insight:

UPDATE: A source familiar with the projects tells Billboard: "It's not a new format, but rather a new way to package and present an album This is focused on creative advances, versus shifts in technology."

U2 and Apple Working on New Digital Format for Music

U2 and Apple Working on New Digital Format for Music | E-Music ! | Scoop.it
Many, many people really, really like U2. It hasn't always been easy to remember that fact amid the caustic-and often hilarious-responses to the band's Sept. 9 release of Songs of Innocence. U2's decision to team up with Apple to deliver the new album to every iTunes subscriber, unasked, raised valid questions about consumer choice and personal space in a world that routinely infringes on both.
Christophe Peckeu's insight:

Bono tells TIME he hopes that a new digital music format in the works will prove so irresistibly exciting to music fans that it will tempt them again into buying music—whole albums as well as individual tracks. The point isn’t just to help U2 but less well known artists and others in the industry who can’t make money, as U2 does, from live performance.
