Case Study: How does Google+ impact SEO performance?

Case Study: How does Google+ impact SEO performance? | Jay Nelson's Social Nets and Technology Magazine | Scoop.it

My friends at Econsultancy produced a great post today relating to the effects of strong social footprints on organic search.  While they've specifically targeted Google+ in their study it is reasonable to figure these results translate to other social platforms.

Your clients may be watching only one or two of the possible indicators in their ROI metrics - there is interesting observations around them individually which may provide benefit / insight.

This is a post that needs to be read to the end to get the impact - don't blow it off after the first para or two - you'll miss great nuggets.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Why we’re ALL a bit like Google.

Why we’re ALL a bit like Google. | Jay Nelson's Social Nets and Technology Magazine | Scoop.it

I found this article to be a really interesting perspective on SEO and how we can make our sites more SEO friendly.  Stuart Clark does a great job of personalizing the "black art" of SEO such that it really resonated with me.  By applying many of the same things we already do to validate a website to the activities performed by Google in evaluating sites it made sense to me in a way all my other SEO reading hasn't.

The tips on "what" to do with your site for the various activities you perform during this process also made a good deal of sense to me.

This one is worth the 10 minutes you'll invest reading it - let me know if you enjoy it as much as I did.

This is a really good summary of the video messaging trends from 4Q 2011.  The summary provides good insight if your are considering applying video to your outbound communications, or are a provider of these services.  Very interesting trends which follow much of what you may have been reading from other sources.  I like some data when I start generating hunches - this is a pretty good and current set, maybe it'll help yours as well.

The concept behind marketing with video makes sense for social media for many reasons.  People are attracted to a visual medium, and video can provide stimulus for both the eyes and the ears.  There is a power behind providing your message in video...

Social versus search: infographic

Social versus search: infographic | Jay Nelson's Social Nets and Technology Magazine | Scoop.it

Great leverage that can be gained through the use of both Social Media and Search for raising awareness.  Or, is this just reflecting the emergence of Social as the awareness and credibility tool of the future and the graphs reflect a significant penetration in a very short timeframe?  Right now, it does appear that covering both is the best move, it is certainly an interesting area to continue to watch.

The launch of Google+ certainly put social search on the table, raising awareness within agencies and brands alike after an initial frenzy over the combined concept in 2010.

As our websites become more a collaboration of our content and the content of others, proper inclusion of those "handy" JavaScript tags will be important from a quality perspective.

Kickstarter

Kickstarter | Jay Nelson's Social Nets and Technology Magazine | Scoop.it

Innovation starts from an idea - then reality hits and you need money and a market.  In the "old" days, you'd do a bunch of work and hope to land some angel investor to get things going.

Kickstarter removes that angel investor middle man by allowing you to "pitch" your idea to the world and get the funding you need and determine if the market exists - before you spend your time making the prototype.

As a "creator" I'm not quite sure I want to reveal my "next great thing" prematurely, but this seems to have merit.

Kickstarter is the world's largest funding platform for creative projects.
