Your Personality Type Can Be Measured According to Your Social Media Presence

Traditionally, personality has been measured according to self-reported info, through mechanisms like questionnaires. But people’s own view of themselves is often notoriously at odds with the way other people view them, so simply asking people about themselves can lead to discrepancies and misleading results.

A team of researchers in Asia have been experimenting with another method of personality prediction: one that uses people’s behavior on social media sites as a proxy for personality.

HTML5 Best Practices for Designers

HTML5 is sure to be a big hit this year as far as web design trends go, and rightfully so.

The first thing to understand is where HTML5 ends and CSS3 begins. HTML5 is just the markup –  a set of standards that define how a document should be structured and how browsers should interpret it.

Rather than shouldering all the responsibility for presentation and functionality, HTML5 gets back to basics, allowing us to tap into APIs and native browser functionality, while looking to CSS to create the visual look and feel. In the end we are left with a straight-forward and simplified language for creating websites and applications.

6 Ways To Find Out If You Are On The Google List Of Blacklisted Sites

This question should interest every entrepreneur and someone who is active in one way or another on social media. These different options will give you the necessary support. [note mg]

Imagine that you’ve spent years building a business and growing a website. You launch a promotion to email a list of potential customers with exciting new opportunities to save lots of money by doing business with you. Did you email too many people, or did you email the wrong people? Did someone turn you in as a “spammer” to one of the many spammer blacklist organizations out there?

Everyone hates real spammers, and the last thing you want to do is get labeled as one. That’s one kind of blacklist. The other kind is worse – the search engine blacklist. That’s the one that is basically a death sentence for your site because Google and other search engines stop crawling your site or even listing it in search results. No blacklist is good to get, because ISP’s and many content filtering services access Internet blacklists to figure out not only what email to block, but also what websites to block or to mark as potentially dangerous.

How do you know you’re on the Google List or any other database of blacklisted sites?

WordPress completely dominates top 100 blogs with 49% relative majority

While for a moment Tumblr gave WordPress a run for its money, WordPress now powers nearly 73 million blogs (Tumblr has 51 million), and continues to expand its massive reach. But aside from new blogs popping up all over the place, a closer look at Technorati’s top 100 list reveals how WordPress is putting other platforms to shame in the pro space.
Three years ago, WordPress held the #1 spot, running 32% of the top 100 blogs. This year, the dominance is even greater, as the open source giant now provides (hosted & self-hosted) 49% of blogs on Technorati’s list, according to Royal Pingdom.

Google Rolls Out Knowledge Graph to Make Search Results More 'Human'

Today, Google announced the rollout of its Knowledge Graph, which will cause a big change to how results are delivered in the SERPs. Basically, the intent behind the Knowledge Graph is for search engines to think more like a human -- and deliver results that reflect that. It's gradually rolling out in the U.S. as we speak, but you might not see it for yourself quite yet. After the initial rollout is complete, Google will expand the Knowledge Graph to searches on mobile and tablet devices, then to languages other than English.

As Google puts it, Knowledge Graph, "taps into the collective intelligence of the web and understands the world a bit more like people do." Wait. What exactly does that mean? Let's take a deeper look at this rollout, and try to make things a little clearer!

What is Google's Knowledge Graph?

5 Facebook Privacy Settings You Should Know

Every time we share info about ourselves across various networks, it is revealed to everyone even though it is meant only for a select few.
As a result, people or organizations outside our network could easily exploit such info about us even without us knowing.
Must users be willing to pit having a healthy online social presence against a firm hold of their privacy?

It's their choice, or at least it should be... so read and do what you want about it :-)

TechCrunch | Stats: Facebook Made $9.51 in Ad Revenue Per User Last Year In The U.S. and Canada

For the first time, the company gave a look at how it monetizes on a per user basis in different parts the world. There was one chart of most interest.

It shows that Facebook made about $9.51 in advertising revenue per user in the U.S. and Canada. Europe was about half that much with $4.86 in ad revenue per user. Asia and the rest of the world follow that at $1.79 and $1.42 per user.
What this shows is the revenue trajectory that other more economically developed markets like Western Europe and Japan could get to if Facebook successfully grows there or convinces more regional brand advertisers to come on board.

In Western Europe, Internet Behavior Differences Slight but Significant

“Many patterns of online behavior are similar throughout the EU-5,” said Karin von Abrams, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the new report, “Western Europe Internet Usage: Variations on a Theme.” “Email and search are universally popular. But there are notable differences, too. For example, Spain’s web users are more likely than those in other countries to be active in social networking. In addition, the reach of social networks is rising faster in France, Germany and Italy than in the UK.”

Making Real Money in Virtual Games: The Strange Economics of MMORPGs

"In one month, Diablo III, a hugely popular role-playing game made by Blizzard Entertainment, will become the first major online game to launch with PayPal integration. It will encourage players to sell digital possessions for actual dollars within the game. The lines between virtual and real economies are about to get even blurrier."

While Blizzard may well implement best practices in the industry, its expanded player base will almost certainly leave a significant footprint on the boundary between economies real and virtual, and certainly draw the attention of governments looking to increase taxable revenue...

Your Place in the Marketing Mix

As Internet marketing consultants, I’m sure we’d all agree SEO is a vital part of a successful marketing strategy. Online visibility is essential for both branding and conversions. But I think because we are passionate about what we do (and therefore, perhaps a bit biased,) we can lose sight of the fact that SEO and Internet marketing are not the only ingredients in our client’s marketing mix. Print advertising, radio and TV commercials, e-mail marketing, direct mail – for most businesses, these forms of marketing are still heavily used.

And really, in many cases, they should be.
We might all like to think that online is the single best way to reach our client’s audience, but depending on their product or service, that might not always be the case. My job as a Marketing Coordinator in real estate taught me the value of multi-channel marketing, and how different channels spoke to different demographics.
