This is awesome.  So much theory of teaching collides with the practice.  This could be a great way for teachers in the trenches share their experience and get genuine change in education happening.

Denise Weinhoeft-Renfro's comment, July 5, 2013 12:17 PM
This is truly a great tool in my estimation, but theory and reality also collide with technology. If you are not 1:1 then the potential of the app is not getting used in the best way that it can.

Hi Jenn, I don't know you but it probably is not too late. Actually, you have have the 'mystique' factor where other people would be much more interested than you expect to learn more about you. Use branding to give people a taste of who you are. Easier said than done. I have met some people face-to-face who I had followed online. I was surprised at how shy they were. I don't know if you are shy or not? But in the cases I am thinking of, because of their personal branding, we had many common things to talk about.
Jenn Alevy's comment, May 10, 2013 2:37 AM
Thank you Ken for that feedback. I am not shy, lol, I do love my avatar, created by a former student, I love hobbits because I was born on Bilbo and Frodo's birthday and brought up with my dad telling me stories of them when I was little. I work with kids and don't use the brand around them that much but do with my peers. I have yet to find another moniker that is not taken and suits me. Maybe that means I should keep hobbitlibrarian.

6 YouTube lessons for building better instructional videos | E-Learning to go! | Scoop.it

With the rise of the blended learning model of education, video is becoming an increasingly important medium for instruction. Lessons for developing instructional videos.

Becky Mowat's comment, September 23, 2013 5:27 AM
Yes it is so true- be concise, pique curiosity, and use authentic video. Real world settings are so important when teaching L2 learners. A picture still is worth a 1000 words, so just think how much time we save "getting the message across" using brief videos to introduce or define or explain lesson topics.
Becky Mowat's curator insight, September 23, 2013 5:34 AM

I have been using videos creating L2 lessons for a long time to introduce, define and explain topics, also to pique curiosity to learn more... This article  clearly states what attributes a good learning/teaching video should have: brevity, piques curiosity, interesting graphics, real world setting. As educators we can understand why these qualities add value to video content in lessons. For L2 learners I especially like the way LingleOnline uses close-captioned video in many languages to meet the needs of its learners.

The eLearning Weekly Makeover

Welcome to eLearning Weekly Magazine, the next phase in the life of the popular blog eLearning Weekly. eLearning Weekly has been sharing practical “tips and tricks and lessons learned” since founded by B.J. Schone in 2007. Hundreds of posts later and hundreds of thousands of readers later, we are letting the blog grow up to the magazine it has become with new writers and editors and a creative team of elearning professionals specializing in graphics and video.

The move to a magazine format has been a gradual progression ever since Schone brought on Eric Matas as the Managing Editor of eLearning Weekly in 2010.The technical aspects of the transition, from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, would follow some content changes like the interviews and LMS spotlight pieces that Matas added.
