8 digital skills we must teach our children

8 digital skills we must teach our children | E-Learning Methodology | Scoop.it

The way children use technology is very different from adults. This gap makes it difficult for parents and educators to fully understand the risks and threats that children could face online. As a result, adults may feel unable to advise children on the safe and responsible use of digital technologies. Likewise, this gap gives rise to different perspectives of what is considered acceptable behaviour.

'Teachers must embrace new technology or risk becoming obsolete'

'Teachers must embrace new technology or risk becoming obsolete' | E-Learning Methodology | Scoop.it
One undeniable fact about teaching is that teachers not only need to be masters of content within their subject area, but they must also be masters of education as a subject. Another undeniable fact is that neither of those subject areas looks the same as when any teacher first mastered them.

One effect of the integration of technology into our society is that change in almost everything is happening at a pace never before experienced by mankind. As much as some people may yearn for the simpler times of the past, life will continue to move forward as the natural order of society requires.

The influence of additional information on any subject often affects how we deal with that subject. Once we had more information on the effects of smoking, smoking habits of millions of people changed. Once we learned what we now understand about the benefits of physical activity, several sports related industries were spawned. Once we learned what we now know of communication, music and print industries disappeared while being replaced with better in many ways.

Carlos Fosca's curator insight, June 23, 5:22 PM

Nicole Gévaudan's curator insight, June 26, 3:43 PM
"Four propositions are integral to the 2030 Framework:
- The evolution of the traditional disciplinary curriculum should be rapidly accelerated to create knowledge and understanding for the 21st century.
- The skills, attitudes and values that shape human behaviour should be rethought, to counter the discriminatory behaviours picked up at school and in the family.
-An essential element of modern learning is the ability to reflect on the way one learns best
- Each learner should strive to achieve a small set of key competences, such as the competence to act autonomously. A competence is the ability to mobilise knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, alongside a reflective approach to the processes of learning, in order to engage with and act in the world. Global competence is being constructed on exactly this model."
