Flipping Blooms Taxonomy | Powerful Learning Practice

Flipping Blooms Taxonomy | Powerful Learning Practice | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

In media studies we often look at the creation of print and digital advertisements. Traditionally, students learn many of the foundational principles for creating a layout through a lecture or text book reading, and then eventually create their own.

What if we started with creativity rather than principles?

Via JackieGerstein Ed.D., Vladimir Kukharenko, Mario Zidar
Ulrike Grabe's insight:

Who ever suggested Bloom's taxonomy as a pyramid that required to master the bottom levels before the top ones?

Putting 'creating' first is the logical manifestation of action-oriented teaching.

Look down to the appendix to see the list of statements they used. -Lon

LLZ Uni Halle's curator insight, December 17, 2013 11:26 PM

"...Results showed that on average, teachers believed 49% of the neuromyths, particularly myths related to commercialized educational programs. Around 70% of the general knowledge statements were answered correctly. Teachers who read popular science magazines achieved higher scores on general knowledge questions. More general knowledge also predicted an increased belief in neuromyths. These findings suggest that teachers who are enthusiastic about the possible application of neuroscience findings in the classroom find it difficult to distinguish pseudoscience from scientific facts. .."

10 Teacher-Tested Tools for Flipping Your Classroom

10 Teacher-Tested Tools for Flipping Your Classroom | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve spent some time addressing my earlier commitments to flipping at least some portion of my Language Arts classes. (You can learn about my ongoing saga at “4 Ways Flipping Forces Fundamental Change” and at “Why I Haven’t Flipped…Yet”). Reading FlipYour Classroom by Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Sams provided practical advice and a justification for flipping, Learning about the Stanford studies that suggest better results from flipping your flipping (that is, doing hands-on work in the classroom first, reinforced by flipped lessons at night) But, ultimately, what I needed to do was to dive in and try out some tools with my kids and my curriculum in mind. The unexpected result: I’ve had to acknowledge something I hadn’t really thought about — I am a video-phobe.

Ulrike Grabe's insight:

from the text:

"Bergmann and Sams are quick to point out that simply transferring a boring lecture to video will not transform anyone’s teaching in a way that dramatically benefits students."

Facebook is for grandparents: What we need in a next-gen social network | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

Facebook today doesn’t resemble a thriving, living metropolis – it’s more of a friendly neighborhood bar. For that reason, FB will face its cruel destiny of simply fading away. Living in the same city as your parents is forgiven and acceptable; there is enough diversity and distance between everyone. But finding yourself sitting in the same bar as your mom and dad – that’s horrifying. When your father posts pictures of sunsets and breakfast on his wall you know it’s over.

"Bloom’s Taxonomy can be a powerful tool to transform teaching and learning.

By design, it focuses attention away from content and instruction, and instead emphasizes the “cognitive events” in the mind of a child. And this is no small change"

Funny. On the day of the Facebook offering I heard major players discuss how they were doubling down on Google while limiting their Facebook investments confirming a trend everyone in my tribe of Internet marketers felt - Google's resurgence. Great infographic here showing just how broad, wide and powerful Google's "resurgence' is and we are only half way through the second act.

Ulrike Grabe's insight:

Hirnforschung: Erinnern verändert Erinnerungen | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

The Myth of 'I'm Bad at Math' | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it
Basic ability in the subject isn't the product of good genes, but hard work.

“I’m just not a math person.” We hear it all the time. And we’ve had enough. Because we believe that the idea of “math people” is the most self-destructive idea in America today. The truth is, you probably are a math person, and by thinking otherwise, you are possibly hamstringing your own career. Worse, you may be helping to perpetuate a pernicious myth that is harming underprivileged children—the myth of inborn genetic math ability.
