Ein paar Gedanken zum Heiligen Gral | bildungslücke | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

Vernachlässigt hab ich dich, meine liebste Bildungslücke. Entschuldige bitte.

Brian Klerns offers some good tidbits of information for anyone considering to publish an ebook by providing a good overview of the key things that he needs to know.

From the basic tools, file formats and down to the alternative distribution options available to you, the article offers a good summary of what you need to know and where to find it.

Of particular view, especially for those more interested in keeping up with this field, is Mr Klerns short selection of online ebook publishing resources he suggests to follow. These are:

→ Digital Book World (digitalbookworld.com): This site (by F+W Media, parent company of WD) offers news, analysis and interviews about e-book publishing. Start by reading the series of articles about maximizing sales through the Amazon Kindle by Carolyn McCray.

→ The Book Designer (thebookdesigner.com): Joel Friedlander offers practical advice and information on self-publishing digitally or in print.

→ Kindle Direct Publishing forums (forums.kindledirectpublishing.com): While most digital publishing services offer their own forums, the Kindle forums host some of the most active and comprehensive discussions. Whatever your question is, you can probably find it answered here.

Useful for beginners. Informative. 7/10

Peter Baumgartner - MOOCs: Überzogene Kritik und überzogene Erwartungen - Gedankensplitter

Peter Baumgartner - MOOCs: Überzogene Kritik und überzogene Erwartungen - Gedankensplitter | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

How to create interactivity that works

How to create interactivity that works | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it
How many times you have come across sessions that makes you click various on screen objects and claims to be interactive? How many times you have talked to vendors who claim their content to be interactive because it has quizzes after every 5 screen?

...

Interactivity can be a powerful tool that can make your course stand out. However, only asking learners to click on something is not creating interactivity. After a point it becomes a mechanical and the learners will do it just to get ahead in the session.

So, what is the right ways of creating interactivity? The answer lies in understanding what is an interactivity and what are the types. Here is a short guide to get you started.

What is an Interactivity?

“Interactivity” is a word used to describe a learner’s engagement or involvement in the learning process.Often it involves an active effort on the learners side to seek out an outcome. It can be a simple multiple choice quiz or a complex business simulation.

Via Heiko Idensen, Kathrin Jäger
Ulrike Grabe's insight:

The article identifies the most common ways to achieve interactivity in e-learning enviroments as control, response and manipulator, explains them and shows examples.

Online Courses Could Widen Achievement Gaps Among Students

Online Courses Could Widen Achievement Gaps Among Students | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

"Low-cost online courses could allow a more-diverse group of students to try college, but a new study suggests that such courses could also widen achievement gaps among students in different demographic groups. The study, which is described in a working paper titled “Adaptability to Online Learning: Differences Across Types of Students and Academic Subject Areas,” was conducted by Columbia University’s Community College Research Center."

Via EDTECH@UTRGV
Ulrike Grabe's insight:

quote from the text: "They found that students in demographic groups whose members typically struggle in traditional classrooms are finding their troubles exacerbated in online courses. The study found that all students who take more online courses, no matter the demographic, are less likely to attain a degree."

*ouch*

But there are pros for older students, students juggling jobs, studdying and family and and higher performing students.

I chose this resource to use for motivation or general ideas to become a better principal and educational leader.

It is important to be aware of achievement gaps and the reason for them.

Leaders can support their teachers by providing resources and training to try and counter act these gaps. As a future leader I want to be accompanying and empathetic with situations while remaining steadfast to improve student's lives.
