Hybrid Pedagogy is an academic and networked journal of learning, teaching, and technology that combines the strands of critical pedagogy and digital pedagogy to arrive at the best social and civil uses of technology and digital media in education.
Ulrike Grabe's insight:

From the text: "One of the most important aspects of the learning experience is motivation. And one of the most important aspects of motivation is our sense of our own capability, and our sense that the enviroment we are learning in will allow us to achieve."

#gcmuc (3): Gamification - was schiefgehen kann, oder gar keine Gamification ist | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

Social Networking in the 1600s

Social Networking in the 1600s | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

LONDON — SOCIAL networks stand accused of being enemies of productivity. According to one popular (if questionable) infographic circulating online, the use of Facebook, Twitter and other such sites at work costs the American economy $650 billion each year. Our attention spans are atrophying, our test scores declining, all because of these “weapons of mass distraction.”

Yet such worries have arisen before. In England in the late 1600s, very similar concerns were expressed about another new media-sharing environment, the allure of which seemed to be undermining young people’s ability to concentrate on their studies or their work: the coffeehouse. It was the social-networking site of its day.

Peer assessment may lead to better learning outcomes. In his Human Computer Interface course, Scott Klemmer of th HCI Group found that students can be put to work reviewing their cohorts.
Ulrike Grabe's insight:

from the text: "If my experience is any indication, students seem to be willing to do more of the heavy lifting when they benefit from the examples of their peers. Given that MOOCs are often criticized for their lack of student engagement, peer assessments could be a breakthrough that validates their mass scale."

What We Can Expect From The Next Decade Of Technology

What We Can Expect From The Next Decade Of Technology | e-learning in higher education and beyond | Scoop.it

This new era of computing will be different than anything we’ve seen before. Technology will cease to be something we turn on and off, but will become an inextricable part of not only our environment, but ourselves. It is a future that is both utopian and dystopian (depending on your perspective), in that the human experience will change dramatically.
