Critical thinking is defined as a reflective and reasonable thought process embodying depth, accuracy, and astute judgment to determine the merit of a decision, an object, or a theory (Alwehaibi, 2012). Creative thinking involves analysis, evaluation, and a synthesizing of facts, ideas, opinions, and theories. Possessing the capacity to logically and creatively exercise in-depth judgment and reflection to work effectively in the realm of complex ideas exemplifies a critical thinker (Carmichael & Farrell, 2012).

I had a banner on my classroom wall for years. It read: "Learn how to think!"


In the conservative backwaters of Nevada this was considered a radical approach.  I even had a parent rant at me, "How dare you teach my child to challenge authority!"  


Still I persisted and can now smile knowing I've helped some of my students on the road to critical thinking.   


Is critical thinking a subversive activity in your school?  If so, be subversive!

My daily life at work and play so often involves Socratic questioning - I never get bored and constantly on a learning curve! Thanks for sharing this great resource!

There is an approach to solving a problem, by Guy Brousseau. It looks much like this process.And it works!
