Integrating video and other online resources into classroom instruction makes simple sense.  Shifting the standard lecturs to on demand video changes the nature of homework and converts the 'lecture time' into hands on workshop opportunities.  It's time to flip!

Blended Learning (BL) is a way to engage learners through a mix of interfaces that addresses diverse learning preferences and styles.  This mix will help the learners to choose what works for them, while allowing the presenter to choose the medium that works best for the content.

Kristen demonstrates BL is not a collection of material compiled using a set of cool tools, rather for BL to work; it should be a “product” of a carefully planned process.  The 5 best practices is a good foundation for educators.

Thank you Kristen!

Collaboration lights the learning fires: International, national, regional... oh just get outside of the school walls!

Back in the Compuserve days I ran a 'sneaker net' collaboration between my rural middle school kids in Nevada and a high school class in Tatebashia Japan. It was one of the most dynamic experiences of my teaching career.  These days the technology is so much more transparent. I had to gather word processed letters on a disk and send them out via my home 300 baud modem on Friday nights. Now you can interact in real time.

If you haven't tried global collaboration with your students, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Jan MacWatters's curator insight, August 2, 2013 7:40 AM

Global e pals is a great way to get kids to understand how connected our world really is.

How to design great #eLearning: ask the right questions

How to design great #eLearning: ask the right questions | E-learning and education | Scoop.it

Julian Stodd's learning methodology runs across six steps: context, demonstration, exploration, reflection, assessment and footsteps. When designing a piece of learning, this blueprint lets you structure the content, design the experience, effectively. The purpose is simply to give three or so questions that you can ask at each stage: some of yourself as the organisation, some from the learner.
