How to Edit Videos In Your Browser With YouTube's Built-in App | E-learning | Scoop.it
YouTube's online video editor has been around for several years, but it's not heavily promoted on the site, and it often gets overlooked by people wanting a basic tool to spruce up their footage. It shouldn't, though, because it's surprisingly capable. Here's how to get the most out of it.

Great infographic on netiquette!

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, January 15, 1:59 AM

This is a most valuable and important infographic on online netiquette on discussion boards. Some of the important pointers are that one should not capitalize all the letters in a word or more. Somehow in our haste to post our points of view, we capitalize entire words to grab attention, which in itself is bad netiquette! Also, I liked the one that suggests that we should be polite towards others. In our haste to pitch in an interesting debate, we repeat questions and statements. While participating in online discussion forums, we also need to respect another's point of view. Great infographic though!

Schools' walled garden approach to content means pupils don’t learn necessary skills - Daily Genius

Schools' walled garden approach to content means pupils don’t learn necessary skills - Daily Genius | E-learning | Scoop.it
It still happens, and it still surprises. Schools creating walled environments for their pupils to do their online learning in a ‘safe’ environment. A controlled space where nothing unapproved can intrude. In many ways it makes sense, and gives the institution charged with the child’s welfare, a measure of control. The problem is that where there’s a slightest chance, someone will dive through a loophole to escape those controls. Content and information, like water, will always break through.

The Best 4 iPad Note Taking Apps for Students and Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

The Best 4 iPad Note Taking Apps for Students and Teachers ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | E-learning | Scoop.it
Below are some great iPad apps that students can use to take notes on their iPads. I know the app store is teeming with all kinds of note taking apps and I have already featured several of them in previous posts several of these apps. However, today's list is very short and only contains the ones I personally believe students should definitely be aware of. I did not include Evernote because it is a taken for granted app in this category. If you are looking for audio note taking apps, this collection embeds some interesting titles to start with. Enjoy

teachingwithipad.org - Where did My Camera Roll and Photo Stream go in iOS8? | E-learning | Scoop.it

"People who downloaded iOS8 this week were surprised to find something very familiar missing from their Photos app. Gone is the Camera Roll that we have been so accustomed to. Also gone is the Photo Stream folder that contained the last 1000 photos taken on all our devices. These have been replaced by a Recently Added folder. Looks pretty messy, in my opinion. I enjoyed having the distinction between the two."

The Best Teacher Tools for Taking Screenshots and Annotating Pictures ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

The Best Teacher Tools for Taking Screenshots and Annotating Pictures ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | E-learning | Scoop.it
Creating tutorials and explanatory guides is best done through the help of screenshots. These are pictures we take of our screens to share with others or include in a visual demonstration of how, for example, a process works. As teachers and educators we often find ourselves in need of such visual annotations and cues to enhance our students comprehensibility. There are several web tools that we can use to create screenshots and we have already reviewed some of them in past publications here. Today, we are introducing you to what we consider to be the best 4 web tools for creating screenshots. Besides being free, these tools are very simple to use and are also student friendly. They will allow you to  capture your screen, crop and annotate your pictures using  arrows, colours, shapes, text and many more.

Using iMovie App in Physical Education Lessons - November 2014

Using iMovie App in Physical Education Lessons - November 2014 | E-learning | Scoop.it

This month I have been supporting the PE department with using the iPads to enhance their lessons and pupils to analyse skills. Last year Apple updated iMovie app to include features such as Split Screen, Freeze Frame, Video Speed etc. This year the update has made some of these features a little easier to find.

Split Screen: We have used this to compare videos of the same skill taken from two different angles. For example, a cricket bowling action.

Video Speed: We have used this by splitting part of a clip where the skill is most demonstrated and slowing it down.

Freeze Frame: We can stop a clip at any point and create a freeze frame. This freeze frame can be split at either end to create a separate clip and textual analysis added.

I would also like to say a big thank you for all the great feedback to the iPad Teachers App. We are only at the start of the content we can add to this so look out for the first update in mid December with even more ideas. Details of the app can be found at www.ipadteachers.co.uk

REVIEW: ViewChat: An Awesome iPad Collaboration Tool - Free Technology for Teachers:

REVIEW: ViewChat: An Awesome iPad Collaboration Tool - Free Technology for Teachers: | E-learning | Scoop.it
In this creative process, one of the greatest challenges that we encountered was not being able to have multiple screens open to easily go back and forth between web pages, media and other files. When collaborating, we used a variety of methods from Google Docs to annotation apps with shared folders, but could never really find anything spectacular that would redefine the creative process experience for us. I craved a tool that would allow us to go back and forth as well as allow one of us to write ideas and have others be able to see and interact with those ideas. A tool that would allow me to connect with my group, share my thoughts, gather feedback when the idea struck, and not just what I thought of during the 45 minute period. A few days ago my wish became a reality with the release of ViewChat.
