Evaluating authentic mobile apps for learning

Evaluating authentic mobile apps for learning | e learning | Scoop.it
I particularly encouraged them to think about 'authentic' apps rather than those made for learning. This is because in many ways I feel that most made for learning apps have made very little pedagogical progress beyond their roots in CALL from the last century.

I also believe that encouraging students to get 'hands on' with authentic apps has a much more important role in helping them to develop digital literacies which they can use outside of the classroom.

The Difference between Gamification and Game-Based Learning

The Difference between Gamification and Game-Based Learning | e learning | Scoop.it
By Steven Isaacs Have you tried to gamify your classroom? Do you incorporate game-based learning into your curriculum? Gamification and game-based learning have become buzzwords in education yet some general confusion still exists regarding what each is and what each is not. I would love to clear up any misconceptions. Gamification Gamification is the idea of adding game elements to a nongame situation. Corporate reward programs are a good example. They reward users for certain behaviors. Starbu

Gamification to encourage learner autonomy

This post tries to pull together a couple of things I have been thinking about recently. The first was a post I saw on the 21st Century Fluency Project blog a few weeks back. The title of the article 'How I Turned My Classroom into a ‘Living Video Game’ caught my eye and before I even had time to read it I started thinking about how the factors that create motivation in computer games could be applied to the classroom.

Cloud Education, what does it mean for teachers and pupils?  Will this be the future?

CHRISTINE OWEN's curator insight, May 22, 2015 9:29 PM

New technology must be accompanied by new pedagogies for new learning to take place. We are really only guessing at what the future holds for our students. In previous and even recent ages, we had a pattern of development to base our predictions upon. Now,the impossible is very likely, and the possible will be something else entirely tomorrow. We must ensure our students have the capacity to be adaptable and creative in their thinking to take advantage of and flourish in our world of ever improving technology and access.
