a great tool to speed up taking screen captures

John Dalziel's curator insight, September 15, 2013 2:15 PM

Vessenger, producers of a group messaging system, offers this free program for capturing and annotating images on your computer screen.

Snaplr, is available for Windows and Mac.

With Snaplr installed practitioners and/orlearners can capture all or part of their screen.

It's Snaplr's annotation tools that I like most of all.

They include...
- text boxes,
- highlighting, and
- free-hand drawing tools.

When users have finished creating their annotated screen capture they can save it as a PNG file or attach it to an email message in Outlook etc.

A big step forward from Windows Snipping Tool with lots of potential in producing evidence for assessment, and/or producing feedback to learners and/or enhancing collaborative work.

This has been launched by the UK Government to help the public and small businesses stay safe on-line.
Basically it's an animated, interactive high street, which can be explored to learn more about web-security topics.
Clicking characters allows users to watch video clips of their "stories".
For some, the advice provided may be obvious but, as always one size doesn't fit all. This approach does however make important safety information accessible to all.
P.S. save time by clicking the newspaper (bottom-left) for short-cuts to all content.

This interactive graphic, (shockwave file), includes important information in the form of answers to questions learners might raise when discussing the topic of copyright.
To start using this resource all you need to do is to hover your pointer over a student to read the question then click on that student to read the answer.

John Dalziel's curator insight, January 28, 2:19 PM

Build with Chrome, is a collaboration between Chrome and the LEGO Group which has brought colourful bricks to the web using WebGL, a 3D graphics technology. It was originally built by a team in Australia as an experiment, and now Google has opening it up to everybody. So now users can publish your wacky creations to any plot of land in the world.
There are a few new features to make it easier to build and explore this digital world of LEGO creations.
- Users can now sign in with a Google+ account to help find stuff that people in your circles have created.
- A new categorization system for completed Builds will help users sort and filter for specific types of structures.
- To hone skills users can explore the Build Academy, a series of short tutorials.

John Dalziel's curator insight, January 24, 4:14 AM

Google has released this interesting music timeline that documents the variations in the music industry during the last six decades.
The timeline is basically a coloured visualization that chronicles how different artists and musical genres have gained or dropped in popularity since 1950 to now.
Each musical genre is given a particular colour.
Click on any of the coloured regions and users will be provided with more details on that musical genre .
They will also be able to see the major artists falling under its genre.
By clicking on any artist users can read about his/her story or go to Google Play to listen to their hits.
I would think that this is a must access for anyone engaged with music.
