Infographic: The Digital Promise

Infographic: The Digital Promise | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
OnlineSchoolg, org recently published the infographic “The Digital Promise,” which highlights the Digital Promise initiative launched by the U.S.

Digital Promise was created to identify and advance the technologies in education that improve learning. It’s a forward thinking initiative that retroactively is changing education, which has fallen behind in its adoption of new technologies compared to other major industries.

The infographic follows the projected future of a student born in 2000 and expected to graduate college in 2022. It looks at the ways that major industries are advancing in technologies and how our current classrooms are failing to meet future demand.

PreK-12 Dominates Growth in E-Learning -- THE Journal

PreK-12 Dominates Growth in E-Learning -- THE Journal | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
By 2015, preK-12 academic institutions in the United States will spend nearly $5 billion on electronic learning products and services like learning management systems, according to research released this week.

PreK-12 Growth Driven by Online Schooling, Recession

The disproportionately high growth of self-paced e-learning in preK-12 is being driven in large part by four factors: the "rapid growth of virtual schools, the dramatic increase in online students, the recession, and state budget cuts," the last of which is causing schools to shift budgets from programs like classroom-based summer credit recovery courses to self-paced courses, according to the report.

In fact, researchers noted that overall numbers of preK-12 students attending physical classrooms only will decline (by 4.2 percent) by 2015, while the population begins to migrate to virtual schools, online charter schools, and online supplemental instruction. More than 10 million students will participate in some amount of online supplemental instruction by 2015, up from 2010 levels of 2.9 million, for a compound annual growth rate of 28 percent. More dramatic growth will be seen in online charter schools and virtual schools.

Infographic: Study shows the long-term impact of teachers | opensource.com | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

I don't think any of us are surprised to find out that teachers matter. That has always been obvious, but what I did find interesting--and even surprising--about the information coming from the study on a teacher's long-term impact on a student conducted by Raj Chetty and John Friedman of Harvard University and Jonah Rockoff of Columbia University is the degree to which teachers matter.

Data Visualization: 20+ Useful Tools and Resources | Rods Web Design | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

My interest in data visualization is focused on my work in course management systems.  Teaching online classes 'in a database' is one way to describe what we do wen working in Moodle, D2L, Blackboard etc.  I eagerly look forward to integrated data vis applications that will help me see more deeply into learning behavior in an online behavior.

The tools reviewed in this article will help us create our own visualization.  A step in the right direction.  ~ Dennis

"...Today we’ll be looking into some really cool and popular online resources for data visualization. You can see all kinds of data like human population, world condition and even human emotion presented via the visualization. While some of the visualization might be experimental, all of them have one similarity: they help you understand the data better, and this is exactly what visualization is for..."

This infographic illustrates the cost of marketing on Facebook

This infographic illustrates the cost of marketing on Facebook | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

As I investigate the e-learning and online teaching market I advise my students that finding an e-learning job is a combination of subject matter expertise, experience and training, and social networking.  For teachers evolving second careers as online professionals, social networking remains the most daunting endevour.  It takes patience to see the value, but eventually folks learn that information, ideas, and opportunities await those who learn to swim in the media.  ~ Dennis

This infographic , based on a recent survey by Jobvite finds some interesting statistics regarding using social media for job search.

For example,
1 in 6 workers use social media to get hired

Almost 90% of job seekers have a profile on a social media site

54% of all job hunters use Facebook, Twitter or Linkedin to find jobs

50% of job seekers used Facebook, 25% used Twitter, and 36% used Linkedin to look for a job in the last 12 months

18.4 million Americans say Facebook got them their current jobs. The numbers for

Twitter and Linked in are 10.2 million and 8 million respectively
