Transforming Information Literacy for Today’s K-12 Learners Through...

In this slideshow Buffy J. Hamilton discusses the concepts of transliteracy, providing a variety of definitions, and then explores how we can use these concepts as a process while working with students. If we embrace inquiry based learning, then participatory learning and transliterate learning are a part of the whole. The words connect, wonder, investigate, construct, express and reflect are explored with many resources and ideas provided to help you start this process in your classroom with your students.

This is a slide set from a presentation on transliteracy.  This slide set provides a good foundation for understanding what transliteracy is.  It is important to understand that you can't take digital literacy or information literacy and focus on them individually.  Each of the different literacies are connected and should be recognized as such.

According to its website, the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) Project is “designed to find out the best way to give teachers the information and support they want.” Through its research, MET hopes to discover the evaluation methods that can best aid teachers in discovering which among their skills are most effective in the classroom, and also to help school districts identify strong teaching.

Rethinking Curriculum Writing, Part 2

Rethinking Curriculum Writing, Part 2 | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

This is a continuation of the 'Everything you know about curriculum may be wrong. Really' that I scooped yesterday. (Both by Grant Wiggins)  In this post he continues to look at "an explosion of educational innovation" (which began in the 1930s). Along with Ralph Tyler (whom he brought up in his first post) he also presents work from Harold Fawcett, Hollis Caswell, and John Dewey. This post looks at the concepts of curriculum scope and sequence, with a focus on sequence, and if it is 'logical' or 'psychological'.

Online Education Promotes Strong Minds

Online Education Promotes Strong Minds | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
Would you continue to take classes and work on your degree if you found out the degree wouldn't help you reach your academic and career goals?

Doug Lederman, editor and co-founder of Inside Higher Ed, discussed issues related to the ability of American colleges to prepare students for the real world in his review of We're Losing Our Minds.

While this is a summary of higher education in general, I believe that online education should not be included because these degree programs have an ability to provide a different outcome, one that promotes development of authentic, relevant, and meaningful learning.

How To Design Great and Usable Forms - An Extensive Guide To Web Form Usability - SmashingMagazine

How To Design Great and Usable Forms - An Extensive Guide To Web Form Usability - SmashingMagazine | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

"Contrary to what you may read, peppering your form with nice buttons, color and typography and plenty of jQuery plugins will not make it usable.

Indeed, in doing so, you would be addressing (in an unstructured way) only one third of what constitutes form usability.

In this article, you will find practical guidelines that you can easily follow. These guidelines have been crafted from usability testing, field testing, website tracking, eye tracking, Web analytics and actual complaints made to customer support personnel by disgruntled users."
