Here in a post on Mashable done by Samantha Murphy, we have Corning's follow-up, stunning video, the aptly titled "A Day Made of Glass 2." It is, in a word, amazing. I'm thinking Windex sales will be skyrocketing in a few years time.

Through a Green Lens » Reflections on a Year of YouTube and Flipping the Classroom | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

This past summer, I was fortunate to be selected to participate in a full day of training in screencasting and flipped teaching at the YouTube Teacher Studio at the Google offices in Kirkland. It was a fantastic day of learning and connecting with other educators doing great things to improve learning. Many thanks go to Will Houghtelling, Jim Sill, James Sanders and Ramsey Musallam for the fantastic professional development they offered. And also to excellent new colleagues like Karen Mensing who contributed heavily to my personal learning network.

Unfunded Aussie Startup Brainworth Seeks to Turn Higher Education into a Video Game

Unfunded Aussie Startup Brainworth Seeks to Turn Higher Education into a Video Game | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

The startup world is seriously displeased with the status quo in higher education. Brainworth, a scrappy startup out of Australia, is the latest to throw its hat in the ring, taking a novel approach.

"The subject which Brainworth’s founders know best, and where they plan to focus their initial lessons, is computer science with an emphasis on artificial intelligence. Students will arrive at the online university and stipulate a specific goal, such as “learn artificial intelligence.” From there they will be given a range of basic to more advanced tasks to complete and can choose a starting point commensurate with their abilities."

Subtitle, Caption and Translate Any Video with Amara / Universal Subtitles

Robin Good: Amara / Universal Subtitles is a free web-based service that allows anyone to easily sub-title and add captions to any video.

As long as you have a URL of a published video, Amara makes it very easy to caption it. The clip may be on a video sharing site or embedded in custom video player and Amara can still get to it.

Amara is made up of three main parts:

a) A subtitle creation and viewing tool (aka the widget)

b) A collaborative subtitling website

c) An open protocol for subtitle search/delivery

All tools inside Amara are free and open-source.

Supported video players and video sharing sites include:

Flowplayer JW Player Firefox native player Chrome native player
  YouTube Vimeo Dailymotion blip.tv

See examples: http://www.universalsubtitles.org/en/videos/watch/ ;

Where's the Courseware Revolution? What If STUDENTS Created Public, Online Courses For Others? | HASTAC | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

Cathy Davidson: "“What’s clear is that it is time to move beyond the initial experimental stages and start thinking of mobile as a platform for organizational performance. … The time to get on top of mobile is now, as the market has matured to the point where we can see real benefits on a pragmatic basis.”

"...we shouldn't stick with "flipping" the classroom. We should use the technologies available to "make it do cartwheels....That requires not the passive receiving of content from a teacher (the flipping model doesn't change that) but students being actively engaged in the production, transmission, and broadcasting of knowledge--co-teaching, co-learning, co-researching."
