Design your Digital Classroom

Design your Digital Classroom | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

"I have just returned from the Illinois Computing Educators Conference where I had the opportunity to facilitate a full day session titled Design Your Digital Classroom. This session wasn't about the ratio of students to machines, nor was it a prescription for using one type of technology.  The focus was on how to use technology as a tool for learning to support all learners in the 24/7 classroom." Susan Oxnevad.

Susan's website offers a WEALTH of resources!

She is facilitating a series of webinars this June. Details to register can be found here: http://d97cooltools.blogspot.com/p/ice-2011.html

The 33 Digital Skills Every 21st Century Teacher should Have

The 33 Digital Skills Every 21st Century Teacher should Have | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

Every single teacher is concerned about his/ her teaching practices and the skills involved in this process. How many times have you wondered about a better way to teach the same lesson you have delivered to an eariler class? How often have you used technology to engage your students and improve their learning ? These are some recurring questions we keep regurgitating each time our teaching skills are put to the test.

Subtitle, Caption and Translate Any Video with Amara / Universal Subtitles

Robin Good: Amara / Universal Subtitles is a free web-based service that allows anyone to easily sub-title and add captions to any video.

As long as you have a URL of a published video, Amara makes it very easy to caption it. The clip may be on a video sharing site or embedded in custom video player and Amara can still get to it.

Amara is made up of three main parts:

a) A subtitle creation and viewing tool (aka the widget)

b) A collaborative subtitling website

c) An open protocol for subtitle search/delivery

All tools inside Amara are free and open-source.

Supported video players and video sharing sites include:

Flowplayer JW Player Firefox native player Chrome native player
  YouTube Vimeo Dailymotion blip.tv

See examples: http://www.universalsubtitles.org/en/videos/watch/ ;

Online Education for Young Entrepreneurs: Worth Your Time?

Online Education for Young Entrepreneurs: Worth Your Time? | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
For busy entrepreneurs, an online degree may be a keen choice. But definitely weigh all of your options carefully.

Despite the growing number of options, is an online education a smart choice? For many entrepreneurs, it just might be. The reason is, you don’t have to give up your day job — or your business — to take classes, says Jeremy Johnson, co-founder of 2tor, a Landover, Md.,-based company that partners with higher-education institutions to deliver online degree programs. Otherwise, he says, “an entrepreneur has to consider the lost revenue of leaving his or her startup for two years.”

IRRODL - Are online learners frustrated with collaborative learning experiences? | Capdeferro | The International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

IRRODL Vol 13, No. 2 (2012)

Online education increasingly puts emphasis on collaborative learning methods.

Despitethe pedagogical advantages of collaborative learning, online learners can perceive collaborative learning activities as frustrating experiences. The purpose of this study was to characterize the feelings of frustration as a negative emotion among online learners engagedin online computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) experiences and, moreover, to identify the sources to which the learners attribute their frustration. With this aim, a questionnaire was designed to obtain data from a sample of online learners participating inthe Master of ICT and Education program of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC).

Results revealed that frustration is a common feeling among students involved in onlinecollaborative learning experiences.
