The Educator (Sir Ken Robinson) | Think Quarterly by Google

The Educator (Sir Ken Robinson) | Think Quarterly by Google | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

By Andrea Kurland

Substantial interview with  Sir Ken Robinson -JL

"If the first stage of leading a culture of innovation is acknowledging that ‘organisations are not mechanisms and people are not components’, stage two is accepting that there’s no quick fix. “There are all kinds of things that will get in the way of creativity, but there is no guaranteed formula for making it happen,” says Robinson.

"He continues: “Very often people are looking for silver bullets: ‘How do we do it?’ There are rules and conventions you can learn from the past, but the great thing with creativity is there is always a chance you can come up with something completely different that no one has ever thought of before, and there is no set formula to get to that. It’s about recognising that this isn’t just about efficiency. It’s about a frame of mind. It’s a state of possibility that people have to engage with.”

Flipped Classroom: The Full Picture for Higher Education | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

The Flipped Classroom, as most know, has become quite the buzz in education.  Its use in higher education has been given a lot of press recently.  The purpose of this post is to:

Provide background for this model of learning with a focus on its use in higher education. Identify some problems with its use and implementation that if not addressed, could become just a fading fad. Propose a model for implementation based on an experiential cycle of learning mode

Revenge of the Underpaid Professors - Commentary - The Chronicle of Higher Education

Revenge of the Underpaid Professors - Commentary - The Chronicle of Higher Education | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it

This means that, today, a supremely talented and criminally underpaid college teacher doesn't need to rely on a large, exploitative organization in order to reach students. All she needs is a company like Udemy, which provides course-building tools, free, along with an online marketplace where courses can be sold (or given away) to students. The teachers can charge whatever they like, and they keep 70 percent of revenues along with 100 percent of intellectual-property rights to the course.

An OER Toolkit for Expanding Blended Learning « Uncategorized « Education Domain: Online Learning | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
The OER project, created by the University of Central Florida (UCF) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), with funding from the NGLC, is called the “Blended Learning Toolkit,” which seeks to provide higher education institutions and instructors with a guide for developing and managing blended and online learning programs.

Yet, while the Blended Learning Toolkit may have been developed by university experts for higher education, it also serves as a valuable resource for school districts and teachers interested in implementing blended and online learning programs in K-12 education.

Brain Scans Could Replace The SAT By 2032

Brain Scans Could Replace The SAT By 2032 | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
Imagine it's the year 2032. You are a high school student. You are at a center where a visual scanner confirms your identity so you can enter a room where you are about to receive a brain scan. A robot attendant with a soothing voice recommends that you should relax and that you are welcome to take a nap. As you lie down in the scanner and earphones playing your favorite music block out ambient noise, you find yourself drifting off to sleep.

You wake up. The scan is now over and there is good news. You don't have any medical complications. Rather, you've found out that with your brain characteristics, you have a good chance of being admitted to the college of your dreams. Why is that?

Today, computer involment in classroom is immence. We have e-learning lesson plans, enhahced with WEB.2 tools for immediate reaction. I know I have created a rich learning event when all my students are engaged in arguing about the best approach to the assignment. When we use questions and problems that allow for multiple strategies to reach a successful outcome, then we can speak that we gave students the opportunity to make choices and then compare their approaches. This strategy challenges them to operate at a higher level of thinking than when they can share only the "correct" answer. And this is only possible in class.
