Dennis T OConnor's insight:
The more I use Evernote, the more important it becomes in my onine workflow. It's a complex product. That's why articles like this one will help you understand how to use it. Worth the time to learn!

I 've been using Personal Brain for the last... almost 10 years and, reading this article, I see no point that would make me switch to Evernote.

"For years, I kept hearing how awesome Evernote was: how it could store everything you possibly needed, make it available everywhere, and how scores of people couldn't live without it. I tried it multiple times, and never saw the appeal until now. Here's what I was missing.
"Any time we talk about Evernote, a good number of you say the same thing: you've tried it time and time again, but you could never really "get into it." I was in the same camp, but after reading the other side's experiences in this article and its comments, I decided to give it another shot. If you're like I was and haven't yet experienced the greatness of Evernote, here are some things you should try. The More You Add, the More Useful Evernote Becomes "Let's start with the most important trick: In order to see why everyone likes Evernote, it's important to take advantage of everything it has to offer (rather than use it as just another note taker). Reader ppdd says it best:
"The key to Evernote is to commit to it and jump in with both feet. It's pretty rotten if you're just using it for a few isolated tasks, because absolutely, it doesn't do any one thing perfectly and it's not as fast as other apps.
"It really starts to show its brilliance once you start using it as your default bookmark/webclip app, notetaker, recipe box, repository of all your reference material, and so on. It's great to have ALL the information you need indexed and searchable across every single platform you have. I love opening it up in a meeting and recording the meeting audio right along with my typed notes on my iPad. If I miss something (entirely possible while pecking things out on a glass screen) I can always return to it after the meeting."

Dennis T OConnor's insight:
I've been using Evernote for about a year. I'm still at the point the author describes in this piece. I use it. But I'm not addicted. Should I go all in and really see if I get hooked?

I will be keeping a running journal of all things Evernote as I roll out a complete Evernote Environment in my classes that will be utilizing a class set of iPads. I'm excited to see where this takes me and I cannot wait to see how my students use Evernote. Stay tuned for more updated as I move closer to the school year Via Kathleen Cercone Delete the scoop?

Ken's Key Takeaway: I knew about the OCR in photos. I did not know about the OCR .pdf function. Awesome! Ken
Are you a digital packrat? Are you in need of a searchable repository for everything you want to recall later? Does the idea of automatic OCR (Optical Character Recognition) for all your scanned PDFs get you excited in a way only seriously organised people could ever understand? If so, Evernote is the tool you need right now – and we’ve got the perfect manual to get you started using it like a professional.

The great Evernote experiment is underway in the UK. Adam Webster details how he went all-digital with the help of iPads and Evernote.
By Adam Webster
"From 8th January – 22nd March I chose one class, my First Year class (aged 11-12) to give up using exercise books, reading books and textbooks. Instead, they would use only digital mediums that were available to them through an iPad that they were supplied with during each lesson.
"We are now at the halfway point of this test, and I wanted to reflect a little on what I have found so far." Via Jim Lerman
Dennis T OConnor's insight:
Evernote is getting a lot of positive press these days. I've decided to introduce it as part of my online writing class. (My students need a way to organize all the resources they recieve into one central space.)

I love the versitility of this app, allowing students to work on assignment/notes at home on their phone, school on iPad, and anywhere and everywhere in between. Delete the scoop?

Here's a technology that any student can use to 'blend' the traditional lecture with online productivity tools. Take notes and they are wirelessly uploaded to Evernote, along with a sync track of the lecture you're listening to. Very slick. ~ I recommend this! Dennis O'Connor Delete the scoop?

Yesterday Evernote announced new integration with the budget scanning service 1DollarScan, and today they’ve launched a new partnership with Moleskine. And this isn’t the usual slap a brand on the product kind of deal; on a technical level this is rather cool. Delete the scoop?

Robin Good: If you need to do research on a specific topic or need to easily collect and organize notes, web clippings and other content from the web into shareable "public" collections, you may want to consider Evernote (and in particular its Chrome extension and its Web Clipper feature).
