What if Andy Warhol had it wrong, and instead of being famous for 15 minutes, we’re only anonymous for that long? In this short talk, Juan Enriquez looks at the surprisingly permanent effects of digital sharing on our personal privacy. Via Annette Schmeling, Dennis T OConnor

Your reputation is now threatened by immortality. How do you want to be remembered?
Dennis T OConnor's comment,

What do you think of the speaker's recommendation that we don't look to deeply into the past of those we love? Is the Electronic Tatoo a curse we all have to live with beyond forever? Or is awareness of our permanent online footprint enough to flip the technology and allow us to build an electronic reputation to be proud of?

Our children are growing up in a digital world that is completely foreign to how we grew up. We didn't have the Internet as a ubiquitous prescence in our lives. To make things worse, the landscape keeps changing on us, the parents, and the children. It is now, more than ever, crucial to teach our children how to be more than "street smart."
It used to be that having street smarts was helpful, because that way you could protect yourself from being taken advantage of. It carries an element of shrewdness, for one's own protection this is a good thing. Nowadays we need to apply that online. Delete the scoop?

Bean told me something that I took to heart: " If your top priority (value) is in the top 10 of the organization you are working in, stay with it. If not, time for a change."

This story has been rattling around in my memory closet for years. My work on values congruency with Annette Schleming help bring this out. I'm proud to share this with you all.

Powerful testimony about value congruency and a journey well traveled. Dennis hits it right we he states "If you find congruency, stay put. If not; change the culture of your workplace, or change your work place." Sage advice.
Knowing your core values, and having the skill to assess the practiced values in your work environment, will result in a more significant and possitive difference in work attitudens and performance.
Thanks for your openness and honesty Dennis! Delete the scoop?

Improve your TrustScore and Measure Trust #TrustCloud Similar to how you improve your resume’ or...
Dennis T OConnor's insight:
This site is one way to create an online reputation trail. I've been a member for about a month. I'm not yet sure I trust Trust Cloud to be around a year from now. However the basic concept is solid. It's good to learn a bit more about how the scores are determined. (Note, Trustcloud doesn not currently connect with Google+ despite what it says in this article. ) Delete the scoop?

Have you ever Googled yourself ? Have you ever checked your virtual identity? Do you know that you leave a digital footprint every time you get online? Do you know that whatever you do online is accumulated into a digital dossier traceable by others ? These and several other similar questions are but the emerging tip of the sinking iceberg. One that is packed full of concerns related to issues of our online identity and privacy issues.
Dennis T OConnor's insight:
Online teachers learn to live with great online transparency. It's wise to Google yourself, and become more aware of just how you 'look' on the Internet. Professionals do this all the time. But kids don't. As teachers we often learn best by teaching a subject. Are digital footprints someting likely to show up in your curriculum?

Digital Royalty University offers Social Media Education and Personal Branding Education.
Dennis T OConnor's insight:
I'm fascinated by the idea of a 'reputation trail' that builds a person's online presence and authority. For students who don't have much real world experience to add to their resume's a personal brand is a way to distinguish themselves to potential employers. More than ever, being aware of how you present yourself online is very important! Delete the scoop?
