In this video, the familiar illustration assembled at the beginning of each TED-Ed video finds his [computer generated] voice and gives viewers a tour of ed.ted.com. The features explored include the ability to add multiple choice questions, open answer questions, "dig deeper" materials, and custom discussion topics to any video on YouTube.

Dennis T OConnor's insight:

This video gives you a quick introduction on how to use Ted-Ed videos and Youtube to create online video enhanced lessons that are perfect for blended and online teaching environments.

How Educators and Schools Can Make the Most of Google Hangouts

How Educators and Schools Can Make the Most of Google Hangouts | E-Learning and Online Teaching | Scoop.it
What Is a "Hangout?"

A Hangout is a web-based tool created by Google for communicating through video.
Dennis T OConnor's insight:

I've been using Hangouts for sometime.  I like the technology, but question the ROI of using it in asynchronous online course. My students just can't manage to get to one place at the same time. They are used to timing their learning to their own clocks.

I do find the real time connections powerful.  My teachers's sense tells me it comforts and motivates my students to connect in real time (those that show up at least).

I've used Skype, but they don't offer a free video conference room for 9 people like Hangouts.

I also like that I can record my hangouts live and my archive will be saved to my Youtube account.  I've even used this feature as a way to create web video.

These tools are free, powerful, and fun to use.

YouTube videos may soon be getting a little more interactive. There’s now a page on the YouTube website describing a feature called “Video Questions Editor Beta,” which was spotted by the Dutch tech site WebSonic.nl.

Dennis T OConnor's insight:

Making YouTube video more interactive is a wise move! I've found that video sometime rolls right over the viewer.  A few well timed pauses can make a big difference in comprehension.

The Flipped Classroom Case Study By Katrina Strauss

A description of what the flipped classroom is like.

This is one teacher's take on how to use the Flipped Classroom model.  I like the practical, from the trenches pov of this video.

This is not a new idea, but Flipping the lecture out of the classroom and into a video appeals greatly to me.

Too much time spent on lecture bores most students. Again, not a earth shattering revelation, we've know that Lecture only works for those who've learned the "good student tricks".  Most students need to do things, not just listen to how you do things.

If you want to get away from the front of the classroom (sage on the stage) and start coaching and teaching as the kids word directly on your content, open your mind to the Flipped Classroom.  ~ Dennis
