The Institute for Learning (IFL), housed at the University of Pittsburgh's Learning Research and Development Center, is looking for a qualified candidate to join a small team of English language arts educators to plan and implement professional development for middle and high school teachers in urban school districts around the country. A competitive candidate will have all or some of the following characteristics: an advanced degree in English Studies and/or English education (M.A., M.S., PhD, Ed.D); experience teaching English language arts to English language learners and/or other underserved learners at the middle or high school level in a public school; experience modifying English language arts' curriculum to meet the needs of ELL and/or other underserved students,experience designing and implementing professional development for English language art teachers; and a demonstrated commitment to urban public school reform. Excellent communication skills are a must. The position entails the following: collaborating with the English language arts team on the design professional developmental sessions and materials for English language art directors, coaches, and teachers in IFL's partner school districts; writing professional learning sessions (face to face and online) with the potential to engage adult learners in addressing content and instructional issues of English studies; traveling to school districts nationwide to provide on-site support for planning an implementing the districts' English language arts professional development plan; facilitating and co-facilitating professional development sessions in IFL partner districts; supporting district teams to review, develop and/or revise their English language arts curricula; collecting artifacts (e.g., video, student work samples, teacher work samples) for the development of tools for use in districts. Collaborating with other disciplinary leaders within the IFL. Salary is commensurate with experience.
