What the flip? Exploring technologies to support a flipped classroom

What the flip? Exploring technologies to support a flipped classroom | E-learning and online teaching | Scoop.it
A flipped classroom is one where the lectures become the homework and the traditional homework tasks take place in the lesson time. This enables students to attend sessions with an understanding of the subject and to conceptualise and build upon it through doing exercises in class, with you, as the tutor, on hand to answer questions and explore the topic in more detail

I was initially introduced to a flipped classroom by one of my colleagues from another campus. At first I was confused about what it actually meant and how to implement it. This reading does a great job of defining it in a way that I can share with my fellow math colleagues at my campus.

Research: Length of online course and student satisfaction, perceived learning, and academic performance | E-learning and online teaching | Scoop.it

The International Review of Research in Open and Distance LearningAbstract

This research presents findings from a two-part study.  In the first part, graduate students taking online courses were given a course evaluation form.  Student responses from online abbreviated summer sessions were compared to student responses from online full-semester courses.

Both the intensive and full-semester courses were taught by the same professor and both had identical requirements in terms of assignments and exams.  The independent variable was the length of time taken to complete the requirements, with the dependent variables being satisfaction with the course, perceived learning, and academic performance.  A statistical analysis of the data found significant differences in a number of areas.

Keywords: Online learning; course format; graduate school; course satisfaction; communication;academic performance; five-week intensive course; full-semester course; massed vs. distributed learning; equivalency theory

Terry Yelmene's curator insight, August 16, 2015 11:50 AM

A pretty well-reasoned, fundamental thought process for most knowledge work research.  This serves as an even better backward (there-to-here) model to guide the core research workflow process automation  a knowledge worker may want to devise, install.  Think work product-informed -> DevonThink structures -> DevonAgent w/'Active Filtered' automated searches.  The most important drivers here are - 'ethical' - (more than just multiple sources, a stage needs to be added at the work product stage to provide authenticity) and - 'bias' -  (a post automated search,  subsequent manual search for corroborating items selection to provide authority).

Accreditation is a critical factor to consider when planning for higher education. The process is designed to provide some assurance to prospective students, that the academic programs they are considering have been evaluated and found to have a basic level of quality. There are multiple types of accreditation and accrediting agencies, which play significant roles in academic and career activities such as transferring credits, receiving financial aid, pursuing professional credentials, and meeting employers' expectations.
