Social media profiles and pages can be optimised as well. We put so much work into them that it’s easy to forget that there are many other little things that improve the chances of your page appearing in search engines.

While optimising your site is an important part of any SEO strategy, make sure you bring your social media pages into the mix as well.

Our only addition to this little nugget of info is that social sharing is a place where your branding rules can easily be lost and go-astray. Make sure you are consistently posting content with your branding rules by your side, until they become second nature.  Fots, colors, upper-case, lower-case... it's all on the table and how will your followers know how to properly represent your brand if you do not?  If you don't have a 1 page cheat sheet for the different ways your brand can be mentioned and how you want those mentions to be constructed, you need to take a half hour to sit down and do this today.

Facebook’s Graph Search and Google+ : Who Will Win the Fight for Social AND Search?

Facebook’s Graph Search and Google+ : Who Will Win the Fight for Social AND Search? | e-Development | Scoop.it

Facebook is becoming more search oriented with the announcement of the Facebook Graph (currently in Beta testing), and Google is becoming more socially oriented as Google+ begins to have more and more of an influence of individual search results.

Although Facebook is coming from the very “social” end of the things and Google is coming from the very “search” end of things, it is clear that both are coming closer and closer together in what looks like one common goal—creating something that dominates both search AND social.

Facebook is too restricting both personally and for businesses. Reaching out on facebook will cause you difficulties with their policies.

WIRED: Amazing Time-Lapse Video Features Ever-Changing Earth and Sky

WIRED: Amazing Time-Lapse Video Features Ever-Changing Earth and Sky | e-Development | Scoop.it

Heaven meets the Earth in this moving time-lapse video showing gorgeous landscapes underneath an ever-changing night sky.

“Within Two Worlds” was created by photographer Brad Goldpaint. The film features shooting comets, a giant tilting Milky Way, and glowing purple and pink auroras peeking over the horizon. Stunning sequences watch day turn to night and night to day, as overhead stars shine their beautiful light above mountains, forests, and waterfalls.

“This time-lapse video is my visual representation of how the night sky and landscapes co-exist within a world of contradictions. I hope this connection between heaven and earth inspires you to discover and create your own opportunities, to reach your rightful place within two worlds,” Goldpaint wrote on his Vimeo page.

4.5 Billion 'Alien Earths' Calculated to Populate Our Own Milky Way

4.5 Billion 'Alien Earths' Calculated to Populate Our Own Milky Way | e-Development | Scoop.it

Billions of Earth-like alien planets likely reside in our Milky Way galaxy, and the nearest such world may be just a stone's throw away in the cosmic scheme of things, a new study reports.

Astronomers have calculated that 6 percent of the galaxy's 75 billion or so red dwarfs — stars smaller and dimmer than the Earth's own sun — probably host habitable, roughly Earth-size planets. That works out to at least 4.5 billion such "alien Earths," the closest of which might be found a mere dozen light-years away, researchers said.

"We thought we would have to search vast distances to find an Earth-like planet," study lead author Courtney Dressing, of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), said in a statement. "Now we realize another Earth is probably in our own backyard, waiting to be spotted."

Dressing and her team analyzed data gathered by NASA's prolific Kepler space telescope, which is staring continuously at more than 150,000 target stars. Kepler spots alien planets by flagging the tiny brightness dips caused when the planets transit, or cross the face of, their stars from the instrument's perspective.

Kepler has detected 2,740 exoplanet candidates since its March 2009 launch. Follow-up observations have confirmed only 105 of these possibilities to date, but mission scientists estimate that more than 90 percent will end up being the real deal.

In the new study, Dressing and her colleagues re-analyzed the red dwarfs in Kepler's field of view and found that nearly all are smaller and cooler than previously thought.

This new information bears strongly on the search for Earth-like alien planets, since roughly 75 percent of the galaxy's 100 billion or so stars are red dwarfs.
