"Outbrand brand engagement" is definitely a great suggestion. Brands need to learn to engage with audiences a little better.

Shopping Cart Secrets by Age Revealed

Shopping Cart Secrets by Age Revealed | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it
It can be short-sighted to label all shoppers who leave items in a shopping cart as “abandoners.” The shopping cart has become an essential shopping tool for today’s multi-device, multi-channel, on-the-go consumer. Whether it’s carting items to shop later on a different device or viewing an online shopping cart while in a store, many shoppers are mixing clicks and taps as they maneuver their way through the shopping process and may intentionally leave items in their carts to view later.

People Are Laughing at Your LinkedIn Profile

People Are Laughing at Your LinkedIn Profile | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it
Dear LinkedIn Member,

People are looking at your LinkedIn profile, and they’re laughing at what you, in a public forum, have decided to present as your professional identity. Last week, five people (who chose to remain anonymous) scrolled through your hobbies and skills and broke into fits of laughter at each one.

When they looked at your employment history, noting the various part-time jobs and internships you thought it would be a good idea to include, they were almost in tears. I mean, come on—you like playing racquetball and you list “social media” as a skill? What does that even mean? You know what Twitter is and you own those weird-looking goggles?

Somebody give this man a job! Seriously, we hope that you have actually found a job and are not, in fact, starving to death because you are incompetent

Are You Dropping the Ball on This Fantastic Outreach Marketing Tactic?

Are You Dropping the Ball on This Fantastic Outreach Marketing Tactic? | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

Marketing with your consumers instead of at them. Easier said and written down than done. I know, I’ve been there.

Some days I used to give in to the temptation and many marketing dollars later I would remember why those disruptive marketing tactics don’t work.

…Other days, hopefully most days, I’ve got my best marketing hat on and I collaborate with my consumers instead of creating ads and graphics that come at them like a swarm of mosquitos. Point being, I’ve tested out many strategies and marketing with my target consumers has brought my company some amazing new business.

Don’t drop the ball and implement the easy but disruptive tactics. I’m about to outline my favorite ways and most effective ways to implement outreach marketing to collaborate with your audience. (Hint: you may want to print this one out and hang it on your wall by your monitor!)...

This Brand Blog Grew to 50 Million Monthly Readers in Just 10 Months. Here’s How | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

I'm just quoting an extract from Natalie Burg's article:

Of those 100 or so fully composed daily stories, only about 15 will make it to the blog. The curators gnaw the contender list down by testing each with unpublished paid posts on Facebook. Rather than simply posting a link to their audience, PetFlow pays to distribute them to a certain segment of Facebook users who aren’t fans. If a post meets a certain criteria—a classified combo of likes, clicks, shares, or comments—it graduates to the blog and is shared with the PetFlow Facebook pack.

A fascinating look at the Upworthy-like curation system!

“If we run and they kill us, so be it. But we have to run now.” | Matter | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

Six months ago, 276 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram. The handful who escaped that night have never told the full story of their ordeal — until now.Near the classrooms in the dusty schoolyard of the Chibok Government Secondary School, the Whuntaku girls hold court beneath the green lele mazza tree. There is no sign on the tree, no discernible markings; everyone just knows it’s their spot — where they gathered in the mornings, between classes, and after school to hang out, talk about boys, whatever....

Is Referral Marketing the most important tool in your ecommerce toolbox?

Is Referral Marketing the most important tool in your ecommerce toolbox? | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

The funny thing about referrals is that because it’s such a no brainer, a lot of businesses don’t have a formal program setup to ensure e that they’re maximizing this channel, by automatically or programmatically asking all their customers. That’s both a shame and an opportunity lost, because for every one customer who may be naturally inclined to refer or recommend a businesses to their friends“without” being asked, there are almost certainly a number that will be too busy, or not inclined to refer anything without being asked to do so.

That’s reflected in the research as well. Some research done by Texas Tech showed that while 83% of consumers indicate they’d be willing to refer a business they frequent, only 29% actually do. That’s because surprisingly most businesses simply don’t ask.A quick and easy  customer referral program is not only a great marketing strategy on it’s own, because of that gap in consumer willingness and businesses asking, there is also a really good chance that setting up a customer referral program is great low hanging marketing fruit you can take advantage of....

8 Reasons Why the Problem With Your Company Isn’t Social Media

8 Reasons Why the Problem With Your Company Isn’t Social Media | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

As someone who writes about social media a lot, I am often asked why a brand’s social media programs isn’t working like the business owners thinks it should be.

There is a lack of education on the topic of social media. There are also a lot of misguided social media gurus and consultants out there who believe that gaining a large number or a giant audience within the platform is the most important item to accomplish. This trickles down to the company owners and leaders. Let’s clear the air with eight reasons why the problem is not social media....

Chanel Got 1.8 Million Instagram Followers Virtually out of Nowhere

Chanel Got 1.8 Million Instagram Followers Virtually out of Nowhere | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

Chanel posted its first Instagram photos and videos Monday and already has 1.8 million followers. The images-based digital platform doesn't allow users to see exactly when companies or people join it—like Twitter does—but it appears that the brand opened its account some time ago, built up a considerable backing organically and then finally saw fit to post content. An email inquiry to the Paris-based company went unanswered.

As The New York Observer reported, the posts were born from a campaign party Chanel threw Monday for its new TV spot starring supermodel Gisele Bundchen. The brand's first Instagram post was a video (see below) that features a brief snippet of the commercial and garnered nearly 40,000 likes. Chanel's social marketing team then followed up with eight photographs from the soirée that collectively drew 158,000 likes....
