If you have been in networking events, you know how uncomfortable the experience can be. It's not so much that you cannot meet interesting people, it's just that many of us, who are introverts, can't stand the idea of small talk.
Well, according to Kim Nicol, you don't have to network anymore. See every little situation as an opportunity to build relationships.
"So if you're an introvert, like me, who struggled to make peace with the idea of networking, take heart! You now have permission to never network again. Instead, connect to your innate curiosity and focus on building relationships. Practice anywhere." - Kim Nicol

Secrets Of The Most Shared Business Publishers

Secrets Of The Most Shared Business Publishers | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

This week we used Insights data to see how some different business sites are performing on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter during the month of September to yesterday (September 1 to 24).

Business news is hotly discussed in the social space. Some of the most talked about digital news sites of recent times (Business Insider, Quartz) cover business daily, while stalwarts like the Wall Street Journal and Forbes have also made themselves very visible in the new social landscape.

We picked seven prominent sites and ran some queries in our Insights dashboard:

The Financial Times

The Wall Street Journal

Quartz

Business Insider

Harvard Business Review

Forbes

Bloomberg.com

We used the data to analyze the biggest stories by network, the most ‘social’ writers at different sites, and overall site performance. Insights also allowed us to graph their average share counts per story....

I found this article very interesting because it relates to my Social Media project.  I chose to analyze Forbes in the Magazine industry.  The article identified many different strengths of Forbes Magazine and directly compared them to other business publishers.  Forbes proved to be the most shared publisher on LinkedIn and had the most overall tweets on Twitter.  I also discovered that Forbes had some of the most popular articles for the month of September.  I look forward to analyzing my own data for the project and comparing it with this article!

Pixabay Updates Make It Easier to Find Quality Public Domain Images | Richard Byrne | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

For the last couple of years Pixabay has been my go-to resource for public domain images. Pixabay was recently updated to make it easier than ever to find quality public domain images. Now when you visit the search page on Pixabay you can filter your search according to image type (photo, drawing, vector), image orientation (landscape or portrait), and image category (subject matter).

When you find an image on Pixabay you can download it in the size that suits your needs. Most images are offered in at least three sizes. Registered users (registration is free) do not have to enter a captcha code to download images. Users who do not register can download images, but they do have to enter a captcha code before downloading each picture....

Albert Qian's article is right on point in that sense. As he mentions, brands still make the same mistakes, despite being caught red-handed many times.

The problem with too much information – Dougald Hine – Aeon

The problem with too much information – Dougald Hine – Aeon | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it

This is more than just intellectual snobbery. Knowledge has a point when we start to find and make connections, to weave stories out of it, stories through which we make sense of the world and our place within it. It is the difference between memorising the bus timetable for a city you will never visit, and using that timetable to explore a city in which you have just arrived. When we follow the connections – when we allow the experience of knowing to take us somewhere, accepting the risk that we will be changed along the way – knowledge can give rise to meaning. And if there is an antidote to boredom, it is not information but meaning.

If boredom has become a sickness in modern societies, this is because the knack of finding meaning is harder to come by.

There is a connection, though, between the two. Information is perhaps the rawest material in the process out of which we arrive at meaning: an undifferentiated stream of sense and nonsense in which we go fishing for facts. But the journey from information to meaning involves more than simply filtering the signal from the noise. It is an alchemical transformation, always surprising. It takes skill, time and effort, practice and patience....

The internet promised to feed our minds with information. What have we learned? That our minds need more than that. Good reading with your coffee on a Saturday morning. 9/10

rodrick rajive lal's curator insight, September 14, 10:18 PM

This is so true. The analogy of having to memorise a bus timetable for a destination that you will never visit sums up the uselessness of information that we cannot use! Today, there is a surfeit of infomation, most of which is useless, and then we are under the constant pressure to process all this information. Filtering of the uselful from the useless often requires much effort. and to process large amounts of information requires skill. Unfortunately, the human brain has its limitations unlike the computer processor-you add up cores to it and it can multi-task! Life in the information age is perhaps the most significant stage in the history of mankind, and this is already shaping our future like no other age has done, not even the age of the Industrial Revolution!

Why Followers, Not Follower Counts, Matter Most

Why Followers, Not Follower Counts, Matter Most | e-commerce social media | Scoop.it
There's a grand misperception among business owners and social media users that follower counts are extremely important. Too much talk and emphasis is placed on how so-and-so has one million followers. The reality is that after a point, none of that matters. It's true that a new business Twitter account that has zero followers is both unimpressive and ineffective, but once you've picked up some followers, it's highly unlikely that anyone else would care how many you have.

The Church cannot succeed if it, isolates itself, Not only must Christians reach out to Muslims and other faiths in the spirit of ecumenism, but there is a need to embrace other people of different philosophical convictions. This requires ideological tolerance, maturity and self assurance in what one believes in. Such coalition building is made easier by choosing issues that unite organizations and movements and which have less potential causing divisions. At the same time we need an honest and inventive method of dealing with differences. The global movement for economic justice relies considerably on policy analysis and research conducted by hundreds if not thousands of academics researchers and scholars. ?Our consequences of the changing power relations in today's world is that there is more room in the public sphere for the affirmation of collective values and principles, experience proves that an informed public opinion can be powerful today, and can change governments public and international agendas. Again Churches are challenged to make use of this opportunity. They need to read the signs of time and to make their voices heard by responding to peoples cries for justice and dignity, and by speaking truth to the powers- whoever and wherever their may be. ?Christians do not have ready made answers and solutions to propose. The Bible offers guidelines (love, sharing, justice for the poor) but does not defined one "Christian" economy or "Christian" politics. ?Churches and Church related organizations can initiate public debates and largely use media means to reach a broader constituency, furthermore, regional thematic discussions can be facilitated with the ecumenical family. WCC should develop specific analysis depending on the context. ?What are theological implications for commodification common goods? ?How shall we ensure the participation all people in managing common goods in the world? ?How do we deal with power imbalances in the world? ?How can the ecumenical family engage itself effectively and in a coherent and convincing way in addressing global power imbalance? ?How can WCC lead a climate change campaign with social justice as a focus? ?What kind of collective values can be draw for the Churches to guide them in addressing the problem of commodification of common goods? ?The above questions have been answered in our research materials available at http://www.goldenduas.com and alsohttp://www.facebook.com/research of international development solutions and the same are to be discussed by the Churches, public and all its organizations in the interest of public safety, peace, unity, health, wealth, faith, interfaith ?                 Under this circumstances, it is just and necessary that UK, USA, Cambridge, Churches on the International Affairs are requested to accept our research paper and also our research organization as an organization under other faith category to assist the commission to achieve its goal of International Peace and climate changes solutions for the benefit of world community especially Christians, Jewish and Muslims, under the by-law 3.11 of CCIA. In view of the aforementioned submissions in the interest of maintenance of International Peace and Security, UN may be pleased to authorize our organization in the name and style of` Research on International Development Solutions `and also our research report in confirmatory with U/A 96 of the present Charter read with U/A 23 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and thus render Justice.  Now, Palestine Muslims are fighting with Israel , both countries are affected and innocent people are killed frequently which is against the Quranic verses 7:137 & 5:33 that no one can claim Israel Government areas which is a place of Israel People but not Muslim or Christian and they can only Allow worship in the Holy Places of Israel .
