Guest post: Some important dos and don'ts for your Google+ Page | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it
Like it or not, Google+, is here to stay. Even if you've roundly ignored the plaform in your personal social media life, you can't afford to do the same with your company. Cultivating an active, well-trafficked page takes time and effort, but the advantages it brings are well worth the investment.

If you have been in networking events, you know how uncomfortable the experience can be. It's not so much that you cannot meet interesting people, it's just that many of us, who are introverts, can't stand the idea of small talk.
Well, according to Kim Nicol, you don't have to network anymore. See every little situation as an opportunity to build relationships.
"So if you're an introvert, like me, who struggled to make peace with the idea of networking, take heart! You now have permission to never network again. Instead, connect to your innate curiosity and focus on building relationships. Practice anywhere." - Kim Nicol

Social Media Engagement is Not a Strategy

Social Media Engagement is Not a Strategy | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Social media marketers are keen to drive engagement but it may not necessarily be a viable strategy. In fact, it comes at a cost.

Mark Schaefer has a great point: we often confuse the means with the end.

Great curation by @Guillaume Decugis! I agree with Mark Schaefer here.

A strategy focused on engagement without other goals will automatically lead to failure.

Social ROI = Return on Insanity

Social ROI = Return on Insanity | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it
There’s no way to put this delicately, so I’ll be blunt: quantifying the financial benefits of an enterprise social network is turning your company -- and the entire social technology industry -- into a three ring circus.   The ongoing demands of individual executives, archaic software evaluation processes and an obsessive focus on employees as productivity centers instead of human beings have turned collaboration into chaos, and social analytics into a spectator sport. As vendo Topic: Social Business.

They are starting to pop up on major blogs. These articles debunk the social media ROI myth with brio. The one I picked today is probably the best you will read in a long time.

One quote stands out from the rest: "If we stop selling tickets to the social ROI sideshow, nobody will come." No need to say more, IMHO

It's always been about people. It's time brands realized that.

While these numbers might be true on the surface, I think that some early adopters in the B2B space could effectively use both of these tools for recruiting and business leads since the competition is pretty sparse.

Cendrine Marrouat - SocialMediaSlant.com's curator insight, September 15, 2014 2:10 AM

Lately, a lot of conversations I've had with people have revolved around the lack of respect towards social media.

Albert Qian's article is right on point in that sense. As he mentions, brands still make the same mistakes, despite being caught red-handed many times.

"Social media will always be necessary as a channel to reach an audience, but the context of social is going to change as we know it in the coming years. Be ready."

Venkatesh Iyer (venkyiyer.com)'s curator insight, September 16, 2014 2:01 AM

It's hard to say no to customers. However, sometimes, it is necessary.

If you have followed me for a while, you know I am a fan of feedback. I crave it. I also know that it's impossible to make everyone happy.

That's why I believe in being honest and not committing to something when I know it will do everyone a disservice. That's how you build products that sell.

I like this quote from this article by Gregory Ciotti:

"You just have to remember that a company’s competitive edge often comes from avoiding the “sameness trap,” or by solving problems in ways that other companies and customers themselves never considered. Searching for the best outcome often requires many no’s, before you can finally say yes."

10 tips to speed up your WordPress blog

10 tips to speed up your WordPress blog | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it
Do you know that you have between three and five seconds to impress the visitors of your blog? If they do not find what they need within that short amount of time, they will leave -- and never come back. Good user experience does not stop at quality design and content. People do not have time to waste; they expect pages to load fast. And search engines like Google may also consider site speed a factor for ranking.
