With the recent announcement of Google Classroom, school districts and educators across the country that are currently integrating Google Apps for Education into their classrooms are awaiting the opportunity to gain access to Google’s workflow solution. While there are currently a number of workflow solutions and approaches within Google Drive that classroom teachers can take that range from manual organization and file / folder sharingto advanced automation with tools such as Doctopus, Google Classroom provides a viable option that strikes a balance – blending tight integration with Google Drive, an intuitive interface and advanced features that experienced Google Drive users are looking for.

"n less than a decade, mobile technology has spread to the furthest corners of the planet. Of the estimated 7 billion people on Earth, 6 billion now have access to a working mobile phone. Africa, which had a mobile penetration rate of just 5% in the 1990s, is now the second largest and fastest growing mobile phone market in the world, with a penetration rate of over 60% and climbing."

2014 survey shows again that company training/e-learning is the least valued way to learn at work | (e)Books and (e)Resources for Learning & Teaching | Scoop.it
Here are the results of the 2014 Learning in the Workplace survey taken by over 1,000 respondents worldwide*, who rated the importance (value/usefulness) of 10 different ways of learning in the wor...
Daniel Tan's insight:

These results show that, as with the 2013 and 2012 survey, company training/e-learning is the lowest rated way to learn at work, and knowledge sharing within teams is the the highest rated way to learn at work.

What does this mean for L&D departments? It suggests the focus of their work should be in the areas that are seen as high value, e.g.

supporting knowledge sharing across the enterprisedeveloping self-service resourcesoffering and guiding group learning opportunitiesbuilding the personal and social learning skills that will ensure all employees can thrive in today’s workplace.

Daniel Tan's insight:

Gamification works best when the learner has time to think and understand that the consequences belong to their own actions. It’s also worthwhile to provide the learner with rewards for good learning practices. This could be in the form of ‘levelling up’ or just a simple point based arrangement.add your insight...

10 Signs You Are a Tech-Savvy Teacher Infographic - e-Learning Infographics

10 Signs You Are a Tech-Savvy Teacher Infographic - e-Learning Infographics | (e)Books and (e)Resources for Learning & Teaching | Scoop.it
The 10 Signs You Are a Tech-Savvy Teacher Infographic helps you find out just how much technology has become integrated with your teaching life.
Daniel Tan's insight:

It was not too long ago that teachers and technology were two distinctive roles. It was not too long ago where we have the typist pool. Today, most of us have become our own typist. So what happened to the typist pool? The ones i know upgraded themselves  to become administrators familiar with office suite programs.

Teachers today need to move from instructor design to learning design, skilled with technology. You create and communicate with text, graphics, video and images. You know how to search and curate social media, web resources and tags. You are also digitally literate, and in beta (always learning with everyone, including students) mode.

How much informal learning is occurring today and the impact it is having towards developing skills relevant to the workplace. Importance of Informal Learning!
Daniel Tan's insight:

when information and knowledge becomes easily accessible and quite digestible, the proportion of informal learning for the student-learner will increase. In fact, they might know more than the teacher - with search tools (like Google), they will have access to what is being taught; more critically, they will have access to information just made available vs the content that the teacher prepared months ago.

So, imagine the lecturer talking about air safety, and the students raising the recent downing of MH17 during classtime.

Daniel Tan's insight:

one more step into the cloud for higher ed. What would be interesting would be the implications and extrapolations. Will the CIO of the university campus have a new role? Many of them are MIS trained. We will need a new UCIO (University CIO) who needs to understand research, learning systems, learning analytics and a host of other domains that would be rather foreign to them. They cannot use the firewall policy to block new teaching and learning practices and other things they do not understand, or not trained in.
