To the Editor:
This is information doctors won't tell you, but as a retired healthcare professional, I feel an ethical duty to expose.
Have you ever wondered why there is now an epidemic of autism? Current statistics seem to put the ratio anywhere from 1:88 to 1:50 children born today who will eventually fall somewhere along the autism spectrum.
At the same time, there has been an explosion in the ordering of prenatal ultrasounds, even in low-risk, healthy pregnancies. If you graph the rise in autism and graph the expanding push by doctors for sonograms, you would immediately notice the shocking parallels.
About 20 years ago. the FDA approved the increased intensity to parental ultrasounds eight-fold, to "get clearer pictures." Also, the rate of autism has risen alarmingly. Is this a coincidence? I don't believe so.
Unlike tragic, observable, prenatal results in years past--from x-rays or thalidomide--these precious babies are born today looking perfectly healthy. Their damage, if it has occurred, cannot be seen externally.
You can Google www.declineultrasound.org, or read Jennifer Margulis, excellent book: The Business of Baby or simply search: ultrasound-autism connection.
"Why haven't were heard of this before?" you're wondering. Answer: Probably because ultrasounds are a huge money maker for the medical industry!
